Well, I think I was able to solve this issue. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I had to update my Wifi drivers (Intel AC3160) because of changing my ISP to one that provided dual band support. The driver version that I had did not even find my Wifi network. So I updated the drivers using the version provided by Dell. But apparently, that led to my laptop not sleeping or hibernating properly. It was as if the machine restarted when waking up from sleep/hibernate. After what seems to be an eternity of trying out various fixes, I managed to manually install a Wifi driver version provided by Microsoft (instead of Intel) that supported dual bands. Since then, the laptop has been behaving properly as far as the sleep/hibernate modes are concerned.
Windows doesn't sleep or hibernate properly after the latest update
On my Dell Inspiron laptop, my Windows 10 recently got updated to 20H2. Since then, the sleep/hibernate functionality of my laptop seems to have gone for a toss. I have the habit of unplugging my laptop and letting it go to sleep (and then hibernate) automatically. Sometimes, I close the lid, which does the same thing. But ever since the update, when I wake the laptop back from sleep, it seems to have restarted. It takes as much time to "boot" as on a fresh start. All the apps and open windows are gone. The only thing that changed between the two versions is that I may have updated my network adapter drivers. Windows Update shows that I'm on the latest version available to me. What could be the reason for the sleep/hibernate functionality breaking?

2021-07-27T13:43:19+00:00 I upgraded Windows using the above method. I'm on 21H1 now. But the same behaviour persists.
For what it's worth, if I put the laptop to Sleep or Hibernate using the Start Menu, it wakes up properly and quickly as before. It's only when I let the laptop go to sleep by staying idle, is when the problem arises.

2021-07-23T01:38:28+00:00 Thanks for your reply, Carlo. I tried the various steps you share but didn't find any difference.
- The Power troubleshooter did not find any issues.
- I ran the cmd to restore the default power schemes.
- Fast startup is already enabled on my laptop.
- I don't see any further updates available than the one I'm already on.
If it helps, I see various error messages in Event Viewer regularly whenever the computer "wakes up". Some of which are:
- The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.
- The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.
- The previous system shutdown at 3:35:31 PM on 7/22/2021 was unexpected.
How do I narrow down what is causing these issues?
