Windows 10 and softwares acting suddenly lagging, glitching, and slowing.

Just recently, my Windows 10 suddenly acted strange. I don't download sketchy applications or files, only on trusted sites and drives. But recently my laptop has been acting strange. I'm running on a 16GB RAM, on a daily basis it used to be normal. But suddenly, even when I have a few software running, pressing Start or Windows File Explorer or even looking for apps from the search bar is taking long. My SSD isn't full though, I still have 65.5 GB left, while 516GB free on my HDD.

I also ran a full-scan on my drives and found no problems. Tried looking for malware and found nothing. It really just happened out of nowhere. One notable thing though is that I experienced a bluescreen twice in one day. Don't really know what caused it, that's why I updated my OS (Still Windows 10, but updated drives). So I updated my laptop through Windows Updates. It suggested to update some drives and so I did. But not sure if things went worse or bad.

Here's a list of what I currently experience (note: these didn't happen a week before)

  1. Paint takes so slow to open

2, Windows File Explorer takes so slow to open

  1. Spotify suddenly doesn't want to run
  2. Experienced two blue screens in one day.
  3. Taskbar acting strange; changing speaker output takes time.
  4. Sometimes, when I hover my mouse cursor over the application on the taskbar, it doesn't show the preview of the tab or it takes time.
  5. Photoshop suddenly having program errors. (not sure if related)

Some facts:

  1. 16GB RAM (56% Memory used with Google Chrome, Task Manager, and Windows Explorer open + Background processes)
  2. Windows 10 64bit
  3. i5 10300H CPU @ 2.5GHz (8 CPUs)
  4. 237GB SSD (65.5 Free); 1TB HDD (516GB Free)

So the question is, is this a storage issue? Is the 65.5GB Free SSD space not enough for the computer to work fast as it used to be? Is this an update issue? Or is it malware that I couldn't detect?

P.s. I'm not a computer expert, just a graphic artist.

    Hi Shoun -

I'm Jerico T., I understand that you're having some issues right now and I'd be more than happy to help you today.

Prior to the issue, is there any recent changes on your computer? You mentioned that you're experiencing BSOD twice in one day, is it everyday or just the other day? Kindly check if your computer produced a minidump file by going to C:\Windows\Minidump

In the meantime, kindly try to perform the troubleshooting methods below and check if any of the resolves fixes the issue.

    1. Boot your computer to safemode and check if the issue will still persist, click the link below for the steps.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sta...

In safemode, perform the methods below.

Method 1: Run a full scan of your antivirus

    • By running the scan in safemode, the virus will be less likely to be able to interfere with the scan and your antivirus will have a better chance to remove any threats.

Method 2: Perform SFC Scan and Repair Windows Image

-This process will perform scan for any corrupted system files or integrity violation and will attempt to repair it along with the Windows Image.

    1. Open command prompt with administrator access
    2. Type each command below, hit enter and wait until scan is completed.

    sfc /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Quick note: While the command is running, it's expected to see the process stuck at 20 or 40 percent. After a few minutes, the process will complete successfully.

Once you complete the steps, the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool will connect to the Windows Update servers to download and replace any damaged files in the local image for Windows 10 as necessary.

    1. Close the command prompt. Proceed to method 3.

    Method 3: Perform Clean Boot

    • This process will eliminate 3rd party application running in the background of your computer along with services that are not needed to run windows. If there's any conflicting 3rd party application that causes the issue on your computer, this process will stop it. Click the link below for the steps.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/how-t...

Reboot your computer to normal boot and check if the issue still persist.

Feel free to reach back if you need any further assistance.

Hope this help. Have a good day.

    Thank you,

    Jerico T.
