Game Mode keeps turning on and off on Windows 10, Game Mode is disabled.

I have gone in my settings and turned game mode off (settings>gaming>game mode then turned the switch to off) and also followed the steps I found in this answer https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/something-happened-with-game-mode/d96dc35b-9f7e-4140-a52b-0d0e63c7bd46 which are:

  1. Press Windows logo key + R and type ‘regedit’ and press Enter.
  2. Then locate and select the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\GameBar
  3. Double-click on AllowAutoGameMode and AutoGameModeEnabled DWORD file
  4. Find Value Data and change the value to 0
  5. Restart the PC

When I followed those steps, the value in step 4 was already set to 0. However, when I am playing a game, game mode will still turn on and off, causing my game to stutter. This is getting very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated.

Which games, and does this happen with all games ?

Are you using a laptop or desktop machine, and what brand and model graphics processor and cpu does it use ?

How are you finding that Game Mode is turning back on after you launch a game ? Do you Alt-Tab out of the game

and see it enabled again in Settings > Gaming ?

    Hello alyssawoodbury,

I'm Ludwig and sorry to hear this is frustrating for you i help you to find a solution with these steps.

Firstly, which version of Windows 10 system are you running ?

To find out which version of Windows 10 your device is running, press the Windows logo key + R, type winver in the Open box, and then select OK.

Then do you want to enable or disable the game mode ? I suggest you to leave the game mode on because the main function of it is to prevent Windows Update from performing driver installations and sending restart notifications and helps to get more stable frame rate in Game.

What game are you playing? and what is your hardware configuration ?

    Best regards

    Thanks for the reply.

Your Windows 10 is not up to date, first update it to the latest version :

-Go here and click on Download tool now (second option) :

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...

-Find the MediaCreationTool.exe file and double-click it.

-Let the default option Upgrade this PC now and click Next.

-Choose Accept for the license terms

-Let the option Keep personal files and apps and install Windows 10 and click on Install.( This will just update your Windows 10 to the latest version and all your apps and files will be safe).

Once your system is up to date, in this case deactivate Game mode. Launch one of your games and see if the problem persists with the Game mode.

I am on a desktop PC, GPU is Radeon RX 530 Series and CPU is AMD Ryzen 5 3600.

Windows Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1237).

I would prefer Game Mode to stay off. It happens when I play any game (Division 2, Oblivion, Observer, New World).

I know it's happening because I get a notification that "Game Mode has been turned on" then a few seconds later "Game Mode has been turned off" and it will be fine for a bit, then happen again. It happens on game startup, if/when I alt+tab in and out of a game, and during regular gameplay (when I'm not tabbing out).
