Windows 11 Bugs (Sound & Brightness)

Windows 11 has been great, but these things kept bothering me.

First things first, keep in mind that I'm;

  • Using ASUS TUF A15 laptop
  • Have updated all of my drivers to its latest version (as of Oct 26, 2021)
  • Have installed the latest version of Windows 11 (as of Oct 26, 2021) from the Windows Update

My audio was muffled, games and YouTube videos sounded very weird and muffled. I tried using earphones and speakers, but both sound muffled. I have tried disabling the "Enable audio enhancements" settings, but it didn't seem to do anything. Gunshots, footsteps in games sound really muffled.

I love playing FPS games, and I love playing at stretched resolution (5:4 or 4:3). However, using any resolution other than the native 16:9 1080p shot the brightness of my monitor up to the max, it was unbelievably bright. The brightness bar was still at my usual brightness (around 5-15), but in reality, it was the same as 100 brightness. I lowered it back to normal, but when I alt-tabbed back to the game, the brightness shot up again. I really don't mind playing at 16:9 resolution, but I do prefer my usual stretched resolution.

Moreover, any changes to my monitor setting immediately shot the brightness up again to 100. I had to readjust it every time, it gets really annoying.

I couldn't find any solution online, so this is probably my last resort. I rolled back to Windows 10. The problems I've mentioned did disappear after I rolled back. However, I'd really love to update to Windows 11 again if I could find the solution, so any help is appreciated.

    Thank you for the informations.

    Maybe you didn't understand correctly, I suggested you let Windows reinstall the generic GPU drivers, not CPU, you don't need to mess with your CPU drivers.

    But if you don't mind, I suggest you switch to using your monitor's native resolution so you don't have problems, it's the best option.

    I'm glad you solved the problem with the sound, in case the problem happens again:

    -Let Windows reinstall all generic sound drivers:

    Windows +X, Device Manager, under Sound Controllers, right click on all drivers, Uninstall. Under Audio Inputs and Outputs, right click on all Drivers, Uninstall. Restart the PC.

    Yours sincerely,

    Update: I was able to open the NVIDIA Software, but I had no luck with the AMD Software after the new update. However, I haven't followed the steps yet, and I'm still skeptical about resetting my CPU. The brightness bug still persists, but then again, I don't mind playing on native 16:9 1920x1080 resolution.

    Update: I updated to Windows 11 again.

    I re-enabled and disabled my "Enable audio enhancements" settings and it seems to fix the sound issue for me. However, the brightness bug still persists.

    Hi, thanks for reaching out! My CPU is AMD Ryzen 5 4600H, while my GPU is GTX 1650. I have indeed installed the software for both of them.

    I don't know much about drivers, but;

    I'll try to do that when I update back to Windows 11 later. However I'm a bit skeptical about reinstalling the generic video driver by uninstalling them, because I had this problem back then where my CPU somehow wasn't detected by my PC, I had to spend hours to fix it.

    I heard that AMD fixed the bug where Windows 11 made it slower by up to 15%, so should I install the generic driver or just stick with the latest version?

    And how about the muffled sound? Any help? That seems to bother me the most.

    Thank you!

    -Hi, my name is Claudeir, I'm happy to help you!

    I understand you, and I know exactly why you like to play with resolution (5: 4 or 4: 3) in FPS games, as I am also a gamer. As much as lately all FPS gamers have been migrating to higher resolutions like 16:9, others still prefer the ''old mode''.

    Well, this is certainly a conflict with your graphics driver compared to Windows 11, since with Windows 10 this problem doesn't happen. What is your video card?

    I understand that you have kept the dirvers up to date, but install the manufacturer's software (AMD Radeon or Geforce Experience) to keep the video drivers up to date.

    If the problem persists at lower resolutions, the solution for Windows 11 would be to use the correct, native resolution for your monitor.

    Another important thing to do is to contact your video card manufacturer's support with this issue in Windows 11.

    You can also use the Win+F shortcut to report this to the system developers, your feedback is important.

    A small attempt would be to leave Windows, already in Windows 11, reinstall the generic video driver, in Device Manager> video adapters> right click on the driver> Uninstall. Restart the PC and test, if it doesn't solve the problem then update the drivers again through the manufacturer's software and test.

    -Feel free to leave your opinion, marking as answered if the answer helped, or leaving more details so that we can continue the service, this is very important to us.

    Graciously,

    Claudeir
