Windows 10/11 mobile hotspot - obtaining IP error - how to migrate all network settings

Hello,

I used to enable the mobile hotspot feature and share my wifi connection via my desktop pc to my other mobile devices. After a while, I tried again but my mobile devices couldn't connect hotspot connection and got stuck at obtaining IP phase. I am using my TP link dongle to do that.

I am also using a Surface pro 4 and when I try to enable the mobile hotspot feature with TP link dongle (after disabling Surface`s wifi adapters) I experienced the same problem, mobile hotspot turns on but my mobile devices cannot connect and get stuck at obtaining IP address step. I am using the same Windows account and using the settings sync option between 2 computers.

When I try to do the same thing with a clean Windows installation without restoring any settings or my wife's laptop, everything works fine with this TP link dongle, I could establish a mobile hotspot and share a wifi connection with my mobile devices.

My questions are:

  • how can I solve my problem in my desktop PC (well, I tried almost all solutions in these forums, nothing works)
  • Or how can I transfer network settings from a new installation or my wife's laptop to my desktop PC? this could be easier...

Please do not get distracted by why I am sharing wifi connection via hot spot but here it is... It is to establish a direct wifi connection with my desktop and Oculus Quest 2 to use Virtual Desktop or airlink.

Many thanks!
