Hello,

I got the notification that Windows Defender Firewall blocked mmc.exe while in Component Services and Event Viewer. Why is mmc.exe utilizing the network? Should I allow? Could this be used to harm my system? mmc.exe just views items and doesn't change settings?

    Hi AkaB_hoa,

I'm Paul and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Yes, I suggest that you allow it. It is an essential Windows component. MMC.exe or Microsoft Management Console is an Administrator program within Windows that allows access to advanced tools for managing desktops and servers.

Also, as I can see in the screenshot the file path is C:\windows\system32\mmc.exe which means it is the legit mmc.exe file.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

The MMC administrative tools (called MMC Consoles) manage the hardware, software, and network components in the Windows system.

I think it has network-related processes that why it uses the internet.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.

    Hi Paul Navera,

Thanks for the response. Makes sense to allow.

I'm still curious why mmc.exe uses network?
