DVD-RW is a bad idea to begin with. They are much more expensive than ordinary one-write DVD's. The process of writing is substantially slower. Blank one-write DVD's are only about $0.30 each.

You should be able to copy one CD or DVD to another with just one drive. Simply open the window on the source disk and click copy. It should then copy the contents to your hard drive temporarily. When it is done, it will ask you to put the blank disk in, then write to it.

When you wanted to see if your DVD drive can write in addition to reading/playing, you were looking at the wrong thing in this screenshot:

As far as the "temporary location" is concerned, yes, that is the "new folder on my front screen."

When you opened the disc and "highlighted everything and drug it to a new folder on my front screen," you should have seen something like this:

When you released the mouse button (when you "drag" files you must keep the mouse button pressed until the mouse is over the destination location), you should have seen something like this:

And when that was done and you opened "New folder," you would have seen all of the files:

At that point, you should remove the original CD from the drive, put in a blank CD, and click "Burn" in the toolbar (between "Slide show" and "New folder").

Although Windows 7 has some built-in CD/DVD tools, I much prefer to use free ImgBurn (https://www.imgburn.com/).

ImgBurn has no "copy DVD" function per se, but it's pretty simple to do. See https://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?/topic/6380-how-to-copy-a-disc-using-imgburn/
