There is a folder called "DTU" inside my "Program Files" folder that weighs up to 4 GB. I tried to google what the folder is used for but found no useful information about it. What is it for and is it safe to delete its contents?

I asked what the DTU folder is, you simply told me that they belong to Microsoft without explicitly stating what exactly their function is. You say that because these are system files they might not be safe to delete, yet, I believe that this is more like an installation package to a new Windows update that for some reason stayed there, not part of what makes Windows work per se. Just like how a .old folder might remain after updating to Windows. Even though the files might be copyrighted by Windows it doesn't mean it is essential for the OS or that it is unsafe to delete.

Looking at the date these files were modified it tells me that the folder appeared much later after my laptop had already Windows installed and was functioning normally, so once again I don't believe these files are essential to my PC. However, because I am never too sure and I am curious I want to know what exactly these files are. They might have stayed there after a corrupted Windows update installation and might be part of the reason why I cannot update to the newest version of Windows.

    Hi IANRUIZ2

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

DTUNotificationUX.exe is the process in Windows 10 that is responsible for generating the notification on your Taskbar that an update it pending and also on the Power Button on your Start Menu to either shut down or restart to apply an update.

However, in your first screenshot at the top, there is some files on that folder, I cannot see the size of those files, please provide a screenshot of that folder again without the properties dialog.

As we can see the Copyright of the file belongs the Microsoft so it means that these are system files. I don't really recommend deleting any system files as these are essential components of the Operating System.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted.
