Forza Horizon 3 crashing after start.

Forza horizon 3 crashes each time I exit the festival, once the game starts.

It's all fine through the intro screen, the main menu and on the loading screen. Next, the game loads, I am in the festival with a floating menu, ready to head out, switch a car, etc. Once I exit the festival, the screen darkens (as usual) and as soon as the screen goes bright again from being black and then the game freezes and shuts down with no errors popping up.

So at the exact moment I exit the festival with any car, I don't get more than 5 seconds (usually around 1 second) to drive and the game freezes and turns off.

(the PC is completely fine though after the game shutting down)

I have tried some troubleshooting with the game, like reseting its data, running it offline and deleting it and re-installing it again from both the Microsoft store and the Xbox App. (running the game offline delays its shutdown to about half a minute)

I have had this problem for about 5 months and still haven't found any helpful info about the specific problem on the internet.

My PC is highly above the minimum specification requirements and is capable of running Forza Horizon 4 above 100 fps on Ultra settings.

If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know. I would appreciate it a whole lot!

Thank you for your answer Greg!

The game ran very well for 10 minutes straight, but unfortunately, it crashed again right after as it used to.

These are the steps I did.

This problem started occurring 5-6 months ago and I couldn't find any restore point that old, although I found one that was created almost 2 months ago so I tried restoring back to it and I re-installed the game but no problems were solved.

I troubleshot the MS store apps and reset the game. The troubleshooter then told me it couldn't fix the crashing apps (so it probably found them, I don't know for sure).

I rolled back a few software updates and some drivers' updates and tried running the game without updating some of them (except for the Nvidia graphics card driver which I didn't downgrade at all).

I also heard that disabling the microphone access of the game could solve some problems, so I did that too.

Now, this is the second time I tried running the game and this is when I got into the 10 minutes of playing the game freely.

This happens only in this specific game, Forza Horizon 3. Forza Horizon 4 and Forza Motorsport 7 work perfectly well.

I am not getting why this could be happening. It is probably some error with my account or something...

Thanks again for your answer. If you have any other ideas to share, I would be grateful.

Hi Jack. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

Make sure you are signed into the game and MS Store at top right corner Profile icon. This saves Store games progress.

Do you know when this started? If so See if you can System Restore to a point before the problem began following this guide: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

System Restore is your first line of defense and can take you back to a point before a problem began. If it doesn't help then you can undo it. Read about it first in the tutorial above and then try restoring to just before this started.

If the problem repeats or System Restore doesn't work then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...

Even if you've already tried one of these steps, please do them over in sequence:

    1. Check for game Updates in MS Store Hub (three dots at top right of Store app) > Downloads & Updates.
    2. Run the MS Store apps troubleshooter at Windows Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional Troubleshooters > Windows Store Apps.
    3. Try to Reset or Repair the game in Windows Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > [Name of game] > Advanced Options > Reset or Repair. Restart PC.
    4. If that's not enough then uninstall the game from the same place, restart PC, reinstall the game from MS Store Hub (three dots at top right of Store app) > My Library.
    5. If the above steps don't help then go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

    1. Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

    1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, is the most stable method to advance to the latest version, and solves most problems. https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/software-downlo...

Does this happen anywhere else besides Forza? If not then we don't need to check the hardware. One of the above should do it.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
