The following syntax works. NOT filename:*[ (The special character in the example is a left bracket.)
It's sad that Microsoft no longer has meaningful documentation for its software.
List filenames that don't contain a specific character, File Explorer Search queries.
TagSpace adds string names inside of brackets that are used as tags. Eg: report[jane pending].pdf. "jane" and “pending” are used as tags to find the file. When using Win10 File Explorer to list the files in the folder containing report[jane pending].pdf, is there a syntax that can be used in the search box that will exclude listing any file with “[“ in the file name, ie, files that have not been tagged by TagSpace. “NOT [“ doesn't seem to work.

2021-09-22T17:54:54+00:00 Hi,
Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.
I understand your query related to searching for files in File Explorer with excluding a specific character.
Based on my research, currently we don’t have the option to exclude a specific character when searching for files in File Explorer. I understand your requirements as this can be important for you. I would encourage you to provide a feedback using the Feedback Hub app on Windows 10, so that our engineering team can look into this for you.
