System Reserved Drive (D)

I am just wondering what the system reserved drive is. I googled it, and it shouldn't be showing up, let alone have a letter assigned to it. When I open it, its completely empty and it says it is System Reserved (D:) Will this drive cause any problems and why is it even showing up when its supposed to be hidden? Thank you

    Hi Sam

    I am Dave, I will help you with this.

    That System Reserved drive is a system partition on your hard drive that is normally hidden, but because it now has a drive letter you can see it.

    That partition may appear empty, it is not, it contains hidden system files, please do not interact with that partition.

    Right click your Desktop and choose Disk Management

    In Disk Management, find that System Reserved partition, right click that and chose 'Change drive letter, then click the button to remove the drive letter and apply that

    The partition should then be hidden again.

    Got it. Was this drive assigned a letter when I converted MBR to GPT to install Windows 11? Thank you for your help!

    Just a side note, your C partition is showing in red which means there needs to be more free space. For sake of system performance, you need to move data type files off the drive to make more room, or replace the drive with a larger one.

    Moving folders off the drive may end up causing upgrade problems, if the moves are not done legally in Windows. In other words, it is best not to use Registry modifications to move the folders.
