How do I change the default program which opens a particular file type?

In the choose default apps by file type I'm only given 3 options:

Choose an app

  1. an app that doesn't work
  2. an app that doesn't open the file type in question
  3. Look for an app in the Microsoft Store (hint: there are none)

How do I choose a .exe already on my computer which I already know works?

    Hi, I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    Follow the procedure below.

    1. Right-click on a file that is the extension you want to change and select "Properties";
    2. In "Open with", select "Change";
    3. In "How do you want to open <extension> file from now on?", scroll down and select "More apps";
    4. Then click "Look for another app on this PC";
    5. Browser to the location where the desired program is stored, select it, and click "Open";

    After doing this, the desired program should already be selected as the default for the desired file type.

    I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions.
