Microsoft Money stopped working after 2021-09 Cumulative Update V21H1 KB5005565

I have been using Microsoft Money for 25 years!

It has my whole life financial history on it!

I have installed from original CD for Money V11 onto a recent laptop I purchased - it was working fine up to a couple of days ago.

Now it just hangs when I try to run it.

I noticed that "2021-09 Cumulative Update V21H1 KB5005565" was installed 5 days ago - and suspect that this may be the cause.

But I can't seem to uninstall this latest update.

HELP!

This has my whole life financial history on it!!

Thanks,
Dave

For some reason, system restore was "turned off".

This is a new Dell laptop - and I thought it was previously on by default.

So I can't use restore points.

But even if I could, I will eventually need to re-install the 21H1 update, so I'm after a way to make Money work with that.

    Thanks anywau

MSMoney has been working fine for me for years.

I have tried re-installing it - no luck - it hangs in startup during image activation.

I suspect there was some security change in the latest update Windows security update.

I've seen other references about it have IE dependencies and hacking the registry for ie version - but that makes no difference either.

I still have my data file, and it works on my work laptop - but I am fearful that any day now my work laptop will install the same 21H1 upgrade and then stop working.

So I'm after a workaround that will let MS Money continue even after the 21H1 install.

    Thanks anyway.

I have Microsoft Money and it's still working fine for me, the PC is up to date with the latest updates including the update you think might be causing the issue. Have you tried re-installing Money? I'm assuming that you have backups of your Money data file. If you have the original Money disc then try deleting the app and re-installing it. Or you could either remove the offending cumulative update or do a System Restore to a time before the update. System Restore can take a very long time to complete but deleting Money and re-installing it would be a quick and easy job.

    Good Day DavidFromSyd,

My name is Carlo, I am also using Windows 10 pc and community member like you.

If its working recently, you can perform System Restore, this will allow your device to go back in time where the app is working perfectly fine.

    1. Press Windows key + R and type rstrui.exe and hit Enter
    2. Once system restore windows open, normally it will suggest a restore point
    3. Select your desired restore point date and time and hit next and finish. Choose a Restore Point date where your device is working perfectly fine.

Restart once done and check the Microsoft Money.

If issue persists, you can try to re-install the app.

Have a wonderful day ahead and stay safe.

    Sincerely,

    Carlo T.
