My fingerprint sensor does not work

I have Dell Inspiron 14 5000 2-in-1 with windows 10 (updated). My fingerprint sensor suddenly stopped working and I need to sign in with my pin. I can't troubleshoot the problem. It used to work after I restarted the laptop when I first faced this problem. Now it does not work at all and it shows that the computer cannot find a compatible finger sensor with this device. Please tell me what to do because it hasn't been long since I purchased this device.

Good day abhyakapoor! I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. I understand that you are looking into an issue with regards to Windows Hello/Fingerprint. Kindly check and try the steps below and see how it goes.

    • Press Windows key + R and from the run box type in services.msc and press Enter or hit OK
    • Look for Windows Biometric Service and then double click on it and click on Stop
    • Go to C:\Windows\System32\WinBioDatabase and take a backup of all the files inside the WinBioDatabase folder
    • After doing a backup of the files then it is time to delete all the files from that same folder and now go back to the Services window click on Restart to trigger again the Windows Biometric Service
    • Now go to Start > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options and try to register the fingerprint again

    Regards,

    Paul R.

    Hello Abhyakapoor,

Support for Inspiron 5400 2-in-1 | Diagnostics | Dell Israel, first try the Diagnostics tool from Dell.

Then if not, go to same tab but go to drivers, then download the finger print ones.

Make sure in device manager that you uninstall all the biometric finger print scanners.

    Thank you :)

    Shawn

First try the Full test and the Quick test to see any hardware isseus.

Uninstall the fingerprint first in the device manger then download this.
