To all,

The name of my brand new Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 raised a question to me. The default name (as I discovered it) is: FIIR8BS.
Why is this the name of my laptop and what does it mean? I searched the internet for this name but I can't come up with a logical reason for this to be the default name of my laptop.

Best regards,

Maarten

In Windows 11, you would be able to set a custom name for your computer during the first run.

    Hi Maarten,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

There is no significance to the name assigned to any new device, including a Surface, it is usually a random string of characters.

You can change that name if you wish.

Open the Settings App, go to System - About

On the right, click Advanced System Settings.

Select the Computer Name tab on the resulting dialog and then click the 'Change' button
