Google Maps/Maps app not working properly on Windows 10.

Hello,

I am using Windows 10, and recently I downgraded from Windows 11. After that, one major issue I am facing is MAPS(Google Maps or Maps app both) not working properly. Location is fine. It is showing correct location but navigation or other features like zoom out/in or finding path from one location to another doesn't work (it makes system laggy consumes RAM & increase heat). Few things which I tried to resolve it, but issue still persisting.

  1. Location turned on/off several times.
  2. Updated Windows 10 & other drivers.
  3. Clean installed Windows 10.
  4. Tried on other browsers like Chrome, Edge.
  5. Made Choose_ANGLE_graphics_backend in edge;//flags to OpenGL. (This somewhat improved the lagginess and made google map responsive, but not as it used to work normally.)

Can anyone help me out as I can't use Windows 11 due to not fulfilling minimum requirements.

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues with maps

In order to get clarity and to assist you accordingly, please reply with the answers to the questions below:

    • What is the make and model of the PC?
    • What is the Version and Build of Windows 10 installed on the PC? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)
    • Are you aware of any recent changes on the PC prior to this issue?

Meanwhile, I would suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below and check if it helps:

    Method 1: Disable Hardware Acceleration

Try disabling hardware acceleration and see if that helps. Kindly follow the steps mentioned below:

    For Microsoft Edge:

    1. Open Microsoft Edge
    2. Open Settings and more by clicking on the three dots on top right hand side
    3. Select Settings, then go to System
    4. Turn off Use hardware acceleration when available
    5. Click on Restart button to apply changes

    For Chrome:

    1. Open Google Chrome
    2. Now click on the ellipses and select Settings
    3. On the left hand pane click on Advanced and select System
    4. Now on the right hand pane, toggle to switch to off for Use hardware acceleration     when available
    5. Restart Chrome

Method 2: Uninstall and reinstall display driver

Please create a restore point before uninstalling and reinstalling drivers

Note: Restoring your PC won’t affect your personal files, but it will remove apps, drivers, and updates installed after the restore point was made.

Follow the steps mentioned below to uninstall video card drivers

    • Search for Device Manager in Windows search box
    • In Device Manager, expand Display adapters and then right click on the adapter, and then select Properties.
    • Select the Driver tab, then select Uninstall Device. Select the check box for Delete the driver software for this device, then select OK.

Once the driver is uninstalled, please download and install the video card drivers from the PC manufacturer’s website or from the graphics manufacturers website

Let us know how it goes.
