I have had a harddisk crasch. I had another hardisk where I installed a new version of Windows 10. Everything went well untilI tryed to find my printer. An old Brother HL-1430.

Everytime I tried to add a printer I got a message saying:

Support for USB-printing

No driver avilable

I have tried to change to another USB port. Same result.

I have tried to connect it to my laptop where it was found immidiatly, and it worked properly.

I have also tried to connect it to my wifes computer, with good results.

After a longer chat with the supportline from Brother, they suggested that I used the printer on one of the two computers. For me it was not an oppertunity.

If anyone can help me soluting the problem I will bee thankfull.

I am sorry that I haven’t reacted before, I have been busy with my family.

I have tried to follow your steps, one by one.

The first problem is that my computer do not find the printer I means that there is nothing to remove when I go to “Settings>Apps>Apps and Features”.

The only thing which comes up is:

(I am Danish, so I try to translate)

    “Support for USB-printing

    No driver available”

I have tried al USB ports om my computer.

I have taken a screenshot is the one at the bottom.

Then I have tried to continue to step 3.

After more unsuccessful tries I got another idea.

I have tried to find the driver in one of the other two computers I have in the house.

It seems like it is possible. I have tried this link:

But I cannot find the driver for Brother HL-1430.

Is there any way, where you can help me to make I work?

Did you try downloading and installing the driver from Brother? (I would think Brother support advised this, but you imply otherwise.) That's always the preferred way to install a printer. Start the install with the printer not connected and plug in the USB when the installer says to.

    https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=eu_ot&lang=en&prod=hl1430_eu&os=10006

I have tried to find a driver on Brothers homepage. But I always come to at page where I am told that the driver already is included in Win 10. Then I have tried to download an older driver to Win Vista 64bit. It did not work. I have also tried to use a driver to another printer. It still doesn't work.

Every time I try to find a driver on Brothers home page I come to this message: https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadlist.aspx?c=us&lang=en&prod=hl1435_us&os=10013 My OS is: Win 10 N.

    My printer is: Brother HL-1430.

    If it is any help.

For me it looks like you suggest me to use a driver for a Mac and not for OS win 10. Do you think it will work?

HI Lorentz. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

If it's an older printer it may only have older drivers posted, so use the newest in the steps I give below, including if necessary to install it in Compatibility Mode.

Run Printer Troubleshooter from Windows Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

I would Clean Install the printer which always works, lasts longer and actually saves time. Windows still needs the full feature software to properly run all the features of a printer/scanner, just a driver and/or the new apps are not mature enough to be fully reliable. Follow these steps:

    1. Power up the printer, if wired unplug it's USB cable from PC.
    2. Go to Settings>Apps>Apps and Features to find and Uninstall any printer software.
    3. Use one of these methods to remove all of the old printer drivers:

    https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&...

    https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=auto&...

    1. Now type Control Panel in Start Search, open CP, choose Icon View. In Control Panel open Devices and Printers, right click printer to delete Printer and any scanner or fax of the same name. Restart PC.
    2. Go to the printer model’s Support Downloads webpage to download and install the latest full software package. Now is also the time to check for any newer printer firmware to install which matters a lot.
    3. Extract Printer software, right click Setup file to Run as Administrator. Follow the setup screens closely as you install the software. For USB it should prompt when to plug in the printer.

Older software may need to be installed in Compatibility Mode to run correctly:

    https://www.translatetheweb.com/?ref=TVert&...

If you have further problems reply back with results of each step.

Once it's installed and you've run a test print, then scanned it to see that it opens on the desktop, open the Printer software and go into its Settings to set the scan-to file location you prefer, also the email app you want opened for Scan to Email, if applicable.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. If you will wait to rate my post until we are done, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.
