Screen keeps flashing and only task manager works

Hello,

After the new windows 10 update, my desktop computer on startup starts flashing the screen on and off. I know that the screen is functional for a fact. The mouse does not work as the entire screen gets reset with every flash and it happens every second.

The task manager is the only thing that works and I open it with keyboard shortcuts. I can also open the menu through ctrl+alt+delete and even open the troubleshoot menu I see all the forums where talking about.

HOWEVER, this is where the problems all start piling on. No matter the option I choose, whether it is system restore or attempt to fix the OS or any of the other options, as soon as I click any of them the computer seemingly restarts instantly and is in a constant state where the monitors don't turn on at all and only my peripherals and desktop RGB are flashing. To get out of this dead state I have to restart the computer and I am back to square one with the flashing screen. Please help with any possible future steps. Thanks.

    Hi Dmitri_098 -

Thanks for the response and I do apologize if the method did not fix the issue

Kindly try to Open the System Restore window via task manager and check if it helps or if you can use the system option via task manager

On the Task manager, Click on File > Run New Task

Put a check mark on the box which says "Create this task with administrative privileges"

Type in RSTRUI.exe and press enter

Once system restore windows open, normally it will suggest a restore point (sometimes it doesn't) if it does, select the 2nd option and hit next

Select your desired restore point date and time and hit next and finish.

Windows will going to restart your computer to initiate system restore. System restore might take several minutes to complete depending on the current speed of your computer and the changes it will made. Applications and updates that was installed on the computer prior to the date selected will be removed. It is important that when system restore starts, process must not be interrupted.

    DISCLAIMER:

System Restore is a recovery tool for Windows that allows you to reverse certain kinds of changes made to the operating system. System Restore is used to return important Windows files and settings—like drivers, registry keys, system files, installed programs, and more—back to previous versions and settings. Being said all applications and changes made prior to the date selected will be removed and needs to be re-installed if its needed.

    Regards,

    Hey Kevin,

apologies for not being clear in my last post. My point is that on this step: ,

I press restart and my computer restarts and no screen will turn on. The only way to solve this is to restart the computer and the same flashing occurs. This behaviour is also observed when I try to enter safe mode through restarting my computer "from a black or blank screen". This means any of my attempts to get into safe mode do not work. I have waited for 30 minutes to see if my computer would activate the monitors but it never did.

Furthermore, if it helps, when Windows first starts and I press the power button to shut it off, an error pops up saying "cofire.exe failed to start" or something along those lines. Please help with these, thank you.

    Hi Dmitri_098 -

I'm Kevin B., I do apologize for the inconvenience that you're experiencing right now, let me help you sort things out.

Kindly boot your computer in safemode and check if you can use that environment to fix the windows

Boot your computer in safemode. Safemode is a windows environment used to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair corrupted windows system files. While computer is in safemode, no 3rd party application will run, not even your anti-virus, and selected services needed by windows to boot are the only running service on the computer. This ensures us that the computer will only use applications and services at a minimal level to avoid 3rd party conflicting application and services.

Please click on the link below and follow the steps in booting your computer in safemode.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/sta...

Once in safemode, kindly try to rollback the display adapter driver of your windows and check if that helps with the issue

    Press windows key + X

    Select Device Manager

On the device manager, locate and expand display adapters

Right click on the display driver that is currently installed

    Select Update Driver

Select Browse my computer for drivers

Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer

List of installed driver will be displayed, select an older driver and hit next until the process completes.

While in safemode, kindly run a system file checker as well to fix any corrupted system files which may be contributing to the issue

Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/use-t...

Restart the computer normally and check if the same issue appears

Hope this will help and have a bless day!

    Thanks.
