Sound problems with audiointerface (Behringer UMC22) after Win10 21H2 and Asio4all

Hi everyone

After installing the Win10 21H2 I got some issues with my sound (reboot noise, sound hang ups). I use a Behringer UMC22 audio interface with Asio4all.

Until this Service Pack 21H2 eth worked fine. It seems that Microsoft did something to the USB drivers. Does anybody have the same issue as me and could help?

Support is very appreciated.

Attached you find the mail to Michael Tippach / the programmer of Asio4all.

Thanks all.

Best regards

Markus

Mail to Michael /Asio4all

Hello Michael,

1st I want to thank you and your Team (if there exists one) for you great software. I used it along with my Behringer UMC22 a lot and it worked well until the last few months. It seems that Micosoft did some changes to the USB ports (after the Windows 2nd half update) - the USB regulation by Windows 10. First I had some rebooting noise on my interface when I used V2.14 asio4all along with Cantabile live host what worked really great until that time. After updating the USB driver, this rebooting noise was gone, but from time to time the sound hanged up and I needed to restrike the key again that sounded sustained. This was quite often. I also checked out Version 2.15 beta 1 and 2 and had the same problem with the sound.

I changed someting in the ASIO GUI and switched off the  In port which helped much but not completey. I got some hang ups also.

My question to you - Could you make something to ASIO4all that this will not occur in the future? As Behringer recommends your driver for the product as reference I copied them as Copy to that Mail.

I will also write the Microsoft community as for me Micosoft did sth to the USB ports in their update and turned sth good into worst.

Your  help would be much appreciated by me and  others with the Behringer UMC audio interface...

Thanks a lot.

My system:

Audio interface: Behringer UMC22

machine: laptop Lenovo G50-30, 8GB, SSD Crucial 480 BX

Best

Markus

    HI Igor,

first of all thanks for taking care of my issue.

You say that the USB is not issue but the ASIO4all driver.

I do not agree with your statement.

Until the last Microsoft update 21H2 everything worked fine with the ASIO4all driver under WIndows10. On my system I used the Version 2.14 ASIO4all.

For many musicians the ASIO4all driver is a fine stuff, because you can use the internal sound card or cheap external ones.

Behringer says that the UMC22 audiointerface is compliant with Win10 by using the ASIO4all. This was the case until the last update, cause eth worked fine without cracks or unwanted noise.

Due to that the last update is why I have problems with my sound interface.

I'm not sure if the USB regulation is the reason but sth changed to the Windows version before.

For me ASIO4all is the standard because it is used by many. I would say Microsoft should check first if ASIO4all would work with their update.

A solution for that issue would be really appreciated.

    Thanks

    Markus

ASIO4ALL is not a true ASIO driver --- it is a wrapper around whatever your computer's standard audio driver.

Who knows where your problem lies? Maybe it's some Windows stuff that Microsoft will eventually fix. Maybe it's a bug in ASIO4ALL.

Behringer made a cheap audio interface that doesn't even have their own native ASIO driver. Next time, don't buy an audio interface that doesn't come with native ASIO driver.

Each major Windows 10 build (1507..., 2004, 20H2, 21H1, 21H2) should be treated as a new Windows version in fact. So driver may work fine for some time and then lose compatibility. This depends of developers - they may follow Microsoft's recommendations for compatibility with future Windows versions, may follow partially and may not follow at all. Please ask Behringer support not about Windows 10 in general but exactly about 21H2.

And if your software and/or hardware have a problems in 21H2, you may use 21H1 while it is supported.

    Hi Markus,

My name is Igor, I have 12 Microsoft MVP awards. It's a pleasure for me to help others and I'll do all my best to help you. I'm sorry you have a problems.

You made a right decision to ask a help from tool's developer. This is developer's task to provide compatibility with operating system.

But sorry, seems you are wrong saying the problem is in USB. Likely the problem is in ASIO4all. ASIO is a software interface for transmitting data from a program that reproduces or receives an audio signal directly to the sound card driver, bypassing the OS sound subsystem. Seems the bypassing code cannot operate correctly in latest Windows build.

As I can see, the latest stable version is four years old unfortunately.
