Hello.

It seems to me that the Intel® Core ™ i5-5200U meets the requirements of Windows 11. Why can't I upgrade Windows 10 to 11? All parameters match, but it is indicated that the processor is not supported.

The oldest CPU supported by Windows 11 are very selected late 2017 gen 7 CPU models.

    You have a 2015 gen 5 CPU.

    1. nobody wants to spend the money to fix future Meltdown and Spectre related security vulnerabilities which involved patching BIOS
    2. computer manufacturers only supplied the new DCH type of drivers (which Microsoft invented to reduce security problems) in 2018 model or newer

You can absolutely install Windows 11 manually on your computer.

But every patch Tuesday of every single month, you would be wondering whether (1) Microsoft will push the monthly update to you which could kill your computer or (2) that Microsoft will blacklist your computer because you have outdated drivers and you would be left out of security updates.

    Hello RolandsRubiķis,

Good day! I'm John and I'll be happy to assist you today. I know this has been difficult for you, Rest assured, I'm going to do my best to help you.

The minimum system requirements for Windows 11 is at least 8th Gen processors (except for very few 7th Gen processors). This is to meet Microsoft principles about security and reliability.

I'm sorry, i5-5200U is not on the list of Windows 11 supported Intel processors.

There has been no new announcement from Microsoft yet if they plan to add more processors to the list. I recommend reaching out to your Original Equipment Manufacturer as they will be able to provide you with information regarding any options you may have for upgrading your device's current processor.

You may need to consider using Windows 10 as it continues to be a great version of Windows. Microsoft is committed to supporting Windows 10 through October 14, 2025.

Kindly let me know if this helps or if you have any further concerns.

    Kind regards,

    John DeV
