iTunes App taking up 43.3 GB of space, yet my iTunes library is on an external hard drive.

Storage settings shows iTunes App is taking up by far the biggest amount of space.

Can't find any iTunes folder on my PC drive with this much content.

I deliberately moved my iTunes library to an external hard drive. In that, the iTunes folder has over 100 GB of music files so doesn't look like it's any sort of copy or backup.

    Hi Just

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Did you backup an iPhone or iPad to your drive using iTunes?

Click the link below to download a small free utility called Treesize.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/treesize-free...

To run TreeSize, right click its icon and choose Run as Administrator.

Navigate to find that 43GB of files and please provide a screenshot of what you find.

If you have any difficulty locating that used space, please provide a screenshot of your C drive in that TreeSize utility, so I can see your hard drive and work out where that space is being used and if there is an underlying problem.

    Hi Just

Those files are not backups of your iPhone, they are updates for your iPhone that were downloaded to your phone through iTunes.

Rest assured, all those .ipsw files are safe to delete, the updates will already have been applied to your iPhone,

I use iTunes all the time, it is the only software that can reliably manage Apple devices on a Windows PC.

    Done- space freed!

Thanks so much Dave- couldn't find anything about this online.

I think I must be one of the last people to still be using iTunes on a PC!
