I can't install either. Guess I'm stuck with Windows10. Lame!
Intel 7th Generation Processors are not being supported in Windows 11
Intel 7th Generation processors started rolling off production lines in the first half of 2016. That was about five years ago.
1.5 years later, August 2017, Intel began selling 8th generation processors, making the oldest 8th generation processor, if you bought one the instant they came out, about 3.5 to four years ago.
Microsoft has said they won't support Intel 7th Generation processors in Windows 11 (except, of course, for the ONE Intel 7th generation processor they stuck in their Surface).
I built my last pc less than five years ago and spent nearly a thousand dollars on the processor alone - a Intel® Core™ i7-6850K.
It's a great processor and I still use it to run the latest games, etc. This arbitrary dividing line Microsoft has drawn between 7th and 8th generation Intel processors must be stamped out.

2021-10-13T20:17:02+00:00 On the same boat! Dell XPS 9360 laptop bought 4 years ago with i7-7560 CPU - not on the supported list. Am I totally out of luck with W11 upgrade, or MS will gradually expand their support list, I wonder?

2021-10-13T22:08:05+00:00 My HP Envy dv7 was supplied with an Intel Core i7-3840QM and is running Win10 Pro 21H1 x64 flawlessly, but the Microsoft PC Health Check rejects the Intel Core i7-3840QM as unacceptable for Win11.
Curiously, the Intel Core i7-3840QM is also missing from Microsoft's listing of compatible processors. It does not appear for any version of Win10 hardware minimums https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/design/minimum/windows-processor-requirements
I've read Microsoft's posts about CPU reliability and processor & driver DCH design principles, which is very nice as an academic exercise, but in practice the Intel Core i7-3840QM has never led to a system crash of my HP notebook running Win10 Pro 21H1 x64 or any earlier versions.
