Hi there,

I have had a days worth of problems with my windows laptop.

A few days ago I logged into my work office 365 account via Edge. I was then unable to open Office Store. I then updated Windows 10. I then downloaded windows 11. Now I have lost my Taskbar and Start Menu. Nothing happens when I hit the Windows keyboard key.

Could someone give some advice on how tix this problem.

Regards, Amos

    Hello Amos,

I have a simple, but effective way of fixing this problem.

1: Click 'Windows key + R' and type in the box that pops up 'explorer' or 'explorer.exe'. This will open file explorer.

2: Click 'CTRL + ALT + DEL' and select task manager.

4: Select 'More details' at the bottom of the form (If it says 'Fewer details ignore this step).

5: Select 'File Explorer' and then down the bottom of the form, select 'Restart'.

After this you can close everything down (File explorer, and task manager)

Your start, taskbar, and desktop should all restart.

I hope this can fix your problem,

    Josh.

    Hi AmosMoody -

I'm Kevin B., I do apologize for the inconvenience that you're experiencing right now, let me help you sort things out.

Kindly follow the steps below and check if it helps

Run a system file checker to verify the integrity of windows system files on your computer making sure that there are no corrupted files on your windows.

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL at the same time

    Select Task Manager

On the Task manager ribbon, click on File

Click on Run new task, Run box will pop-up

Type CMD and click on the small box besides create this task with administrative privileges

    Command Prompt will pop-up

Type each command below and wait until scan is completed.

    SFC /scannow

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Quick note: While the command is running, it's expected to see the process stuck at 20 or 40 percent. After a few minutes, the process will complete successfully.

Once you complete the steps, the Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool will connect to the Windows Update servers to download and replace any damaged files in the local image for Windows 10 as necessary.

    Close the command prompt.

Restart the computer and check if the same issue appears

If the above method did not fix the issue, kindly try to create a new user profile and check if the same issue appears on the new user. This will help determine if the issue is profile specific or if the issue occurs on any user profile that you have.

To create new user profile, please follow the steps below

    1. Open the Settings by pressing the Windows Key + I
    2. Click on Accounts
    3. In the left pane menu, click on Family & Other Users
    4. Under other users, click on add someone else on this PC
    5. By default, it will going to ask you to sign in using a Microsoft account, click on the link below which says I don't have this person's sign in information
    6. Click on Add a user without Microsoft account
    7. Fill out a username and click next until completion.

Sign out to the current user and sign in on the new user profile.

Check if everything works fine on the new user.

Hope this will help and have a bless day!

    Thanks.

    Kevin B.

After the "more details" part, I could not find Find Explorer in the list, even though I'd opened it as instructed. This no Start button thing is driving me crazy!
