MSXML downloads missing?

So I went to try and play an older game, Age of Empires 3, only to be confronted with an error message that I have never received before. MSXML 4.0 hasn't been installed correctly. This game requires it to run. So I went to the microsoft downloads page to download 4.0, thinking that maybe a new service pack for 6 made games that run on 4.0 not compatible with the newer version. I did just install a new Windows update recently as well. But to my surprise, all of the download links for all of the msxml files show up as 404 error pages. Is microsoft no longer supporting msxml or is this a dramatic error on their part? Is there another place I can safely download msxml?

I have windows 10. Windows 11 is inferior imo.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hi Branden. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

MSXML 4.0 is no longer supported by Microsoft so it would be at your own risk. See: https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/sql-docs/issue...

You can ask more about your usage in Github forum (above) as it's more suitable for the issue than a general end-consumer forums.

    Download available here:

    https://download.cnet.com/MSXML-4-0-Service-Pac...

Set a System Restore point first so you can go back if necessary: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

Feel free to ask back any questions. Please report back results for all steps given so I know what else to suggest if necessary.
