can you use device manager remotely on a Windows 10 target?

I have a Windows 10 computer. I am trying to use Device Manager on a remote Windows 10 computer.

I open up Computer Management and then I right click Computer Management and select Connect to another computer and input the hostname of the target Windows 10 computer.

Computer Management opens on the remote Windows 10 computer just fine and I can access many of the tools under the computer management tree.

However when I click Device Manager I get the following error.

"Make sure that this computer is on the network, has remote administration enabled,

and is running the Plug and Play and Remote registry services.

The error was: Access is denied."

I have verified that both the Plug and Play and Remote registry services are both enabled/running on the target Windows. I have also opened gpedit on the target Windows 10 computer and enabled "Windows Defender Firewall: Allow inbound remote administration exception" at the location Computer Configuration-->Administrative Templates-->Network-->Network Connections-->Windows Defender Firewall-->Domain Profile.

I ran gpupdate /force and also reboot the target Windows 10 computer but I still get the same error when trying to access Device Manager.

Is it possible to remotely access Device Manager on a Windows 10 target?

    Hi Goatberg,

Thanks for your post in Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you cannot use device manager remotely on a Windows 10 target. That's because the connection to Device Manager remotely is no longer supported on Windows 10 system. You must log in to the computer locally to use Device Manager.

    Lynn,

OK thank you for the post and info.

This helps me to know I should stop trying and it is not going to work no matter what I do or test.

    Thanks.
