Autoplay for USB drive

Why do I no longer have the option to have external drives and USB sticks automatically opening file explorer since the last update?

Instead I now only have the totally unwanted 'Configure storage settings' option which gives the warning

'The following drives might contain files. If you use a formatted drive with a storage pool, Windows permanently deletes all the files on that drive. You can't recover the files by using the Recycle Bin.'

and even wants to do the same to one of my internal drives.

Is there a way to get back the 'open in file explorer' option that I have been happily using for 20 years?

    Hi returncontroltome

I have Windows 10 latest version and also Windows 11, and that options is available on both of those, do you have any 3rd party security software installed or is your PC linked to a work or school account that may be blocking that option?

    Hi returncontroltome

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Is that option still available to you in the old Control Panel?

Open the old Control Panel, then at the top right of the old Control Panel, set View to icons.

Open AutoPlay, there you should be able to set that option for Removable drives.

    Hi returncontroltome

If you insert the USB stick into your PC, then go to that page in Control Panel, do you see that device listed there at the bottom of the page?

    Hi

Nothing new installed, was still working 9 days ago when I last used a USB stick, nothing has been installed in that time.

Control panel autoplay section unfortunately only has the same options as the settings app, was the first place I looked.
