Hi team,

I have a Dell mini netbook which came with XP. To upgrade it, I have downloaded and installed Windows 7 Starter from a website. This has a trial license which expires after 30 days. Can someone please tell me where I can buy a real product key to activate my Win 7 starter? I found something on the internet for $3~$4, but that did not look ligit to me. Can someone please help?

Thank you,

    Hi Bill,

Sorry to get you a bit confused. Let me re-phrase:

    Hi Bill,

RE: "You could never buy it separately."

The videographic evidence, as you saw, suggests otherwise. So, I am not convinced if your statement is accurate.

Anyways, I will seek some more expert opinion and will post here if I discover something other than what you covered above. Thank you for your time and commenting.

    Best wishes.

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for the info & background on this topic. After reading the above paragraph, I guess a better way of asking the question is: How can we get Win 7 starter separately? (The article says that it was pre-installed on some computers. However, it does not indicate that it cannot be acquired separately.)

    Moreover, there is this video:

Looking at ~ 2:00, looks like at least at some point it was available separately on disk.

    Any other thoughts?

    Thank you.

    You can't do it.

Windows 7 Starter came preinstalled on Netbooks from the computer manufacturer such as Dell, HP, etc.

You could never buy it separately.

Windows 7 Starter came on cheaper OEM Manufactured Netbooks.

    Windows 7 Starter

Windows 7 Starter is the edition of Windows 7 that contains the fewest features. It is only available in a 32-bit version and does not include the Windows Aero theme. The desktop wallpaper and visual styles (Windows 7 Basic) are not user-changeable. In the release candidate versions of Windows 7, Microsoft intended to restrict users of this edition to running three simultaneous programs, but this limitation was dropped in the final release.^[8]^ This edition does not support more than 2 GB of RAM.

This edition was available pre-installed on computers, especially netbooks or Windows Tablets, through system integrators or computer manufacturers using OEM licenses.
