Yes but I was told by the shop where I brought it that it would handle the games no problems

Right click the Start icon and go to Task Manager. Click on "More details" and see how your computer resources are functioning.

You don't want to max out CPU, GPU, Memory, etc.

I’ve got the laptop elevated on a cooling pad but that’s not cooling the laptop down and I’ve tried contacting the Microsoft store in Sydney but haven’t been able to get hold of them to organise an appointment with the technician

    Hi EdwardHartigan

How are you? I hope you are doing good.

I am Juliet and It's my pleasure to help you today.

I know how frustrating this may be for you but I'll do my very best to help you :)

I would suggest you first try to Check and clean the fans.

Whenever you feel your laptop getting hot, place your hand just next to the fan vents. You will know whether the laptop’s fan is working properly if you feel hot air blowing out of the vents.

If you feel very little or no air, then dust might have accumulated on the fan or it has broken down. You can open up the machine and blow out the dust with some relatively compressed air. If the fan has broken down, look for a new replacement. Note that if you are not comfortable opening up the laptop, get a professional to do it

Also, you can try to elevate your laptop.

I hope it helps! Let me know the results.

Please Let me know if you have more questions or the above method didn't work for you, I'll be more than happy to assist you further :)
