Deleted Windows Partitions on SSD and now unable to recognize

I'm building a new PC and was in the process of installing Win10 on 1 of my SSDs. After some research i rebooted PC(not fully installed yet), and started to install on a different SSD. Initially i received an error and at the 2nd attempt I deleted the partitions on the 1st SSD. After Win10 fully installed i'm unable to see the 1st SSD in BIOS, device manager, etc.

Is there a way to recover the SSD? Initially i was able to see both SSDs in BIOS after reworking the SATA connections and now I can't see the 1st SSD.

    Dear BryanBee01,

I'm Dyari. Thanks for reaching out. I will be happy to assist you in this regard.

May I know how did you delete the partitions?

To troubleshoot the issue, kindly try the steps below:

1-Backup your data to prevent it from losing.

2-Go to the manufacturer's official website and update BIOS to the latest version.

3-Check the SATA cables and make sure the 1st SSD is connected properly.

4-Reset the BIOS configuration to default.

5-If possible, make sure the SSD is not damaged somehow by connecting it to another computer or putting it into a hard disk enclosure.

After that, check to see whether the 1st SSD is available or not.

Please let me know if you need further assistance and keep me updated.

    Hi,

To me, it sounds like the Corsair has failed..

I can only suggest that the only way to find out would be to attempt a Clean Install on the Corsair in the M2 slot you know that works.. It seems to me that some motherboards have M2 slots that are not bootable, or even useable for a drive.. Just a WiFi type chipset.. I believe that all the M2 ports are probably linked to a SATA Port with the exception of one of the WiFi device types..

I would advise unhooking all drives except for the Corsair.. Multiple drives can cause installation issues.. Not necessarily at the time of installation, but later.. Sometimes the installation will put installation files\partitions on the other drives which c an end up being a nightmare in the future..

If you can not get the Corsair to show up after selecting a Custom Install, it is likely failed..

There is nothing in the Windows OS or Installation Media that has any control over what appears in Bios other than WindowsBootManager appearing as a boot device..

My 2 SSDs are M.2s(Corsair MP600 and Intel 670p) and I am using the ASUS Tuf Gaming X570-Plus motherboard if that helps. I also have 2 2TB SATA HDDs attached. When I 1st booted up the computer all but the M2.1 port was visible and I decided to install Win10 on the M2.2 port(Corsair). Win10 installed up until it started to ask for internet connection and then I had to head to work. I did some research and was able to figure out why the M2.1 port wasnt showing up(had a HDD hooked up to the SATA6 port1and I guess that causes the M2.1 port to not show.

When I got home I turned off PC(yes stupid mistake with windows being installed) and corrected the cables so the M2.1 port showed and moved the Corsair SSD to the M2.1 slot and start the install over. I think with my confusion of the new drives I got an error initially and then started it again. When i got the screen where it to install and all the available drives I deleted(not formatted) the old windows files that were on Corsair disk and then it completely disappeared leaving me with just the intel disk. I installed windows onto that disk and after install havent been able to find a way to locate the Corsair drive. I have removed all SATA cables, removed the intel SSD, switched the Corsair from M2.2 to M2.1 and still nothing.

If i need to do a brand new install(not sure of the actual steps to recover disk) that is fine, I have only installed Win10 and a few ASUS programs so not a terribly loss.

    Hi,

I can only think that there is a bad SATA or Power connection to the SSD in question, or the SSD itself has failed..

Where are you looking in Bios for the SSD ? It may not appear under boot devices because it is blank, but should appear in the section where the SATA Ports\Drives is listed..

Have you tried looking in Disk Management.. If the dive is blank, it will need to be "Initialized" before it will appear anywhere in Windows other than Disk Management..

This would not prevent it from appearing in the Bios though..

BTW.. It is not a good idea to have more than one drive connected when doing a Clean Install..

Just the drive for Windows.. Otherwise unwanted files\partitions may end up on the other drives..
