Why can't I shoot or make printscreen games in fullscreen?

Hello,

I wanted to make a printscreen game. So I simply turned it on and pressed the print screen on the keyboard. However, after inserting the photo into the paint, there was a screen like I didn't turn on the game. I tried to use PicPick, but it shows the same problem. So I used Bandicam. He recorded the audio, but the video looked like I didn't turn on the game again.

I tried it on a second laptop (with W10) where it works. And I also contacted a friend who already has a W11 and it works for him.

I tried to play another game, but the result is the same.

There is obviously a problem with me in Windows somewhere, but I have no idea where. Windows recovery would probably solve this, but I will definitely not do it now.

Please help

Thank you

    Hello,

    Have a nice new year and I apologize for the late reply.

    Thank you, but this procedure is unusable for me. When I run the PC health check, it tells me that my laptop cannot be W11, although I currently have it there,

    Image

    because I had Insider Preview activated in W10, which once installed an development version of W11, which wasn't subject to any conditions. Therefore, I cannot use the procedure described by you and I can only perform recovery directly from the OS.

    But I honestly don't believe that this recovery won't solve my problem.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

    We fully understand the inconvenience the issue has caused and that the current situation can be frustrating.

    From your description, you may not be able to upgrade the official version of win11, you can only roll back to win10, and once you roll back to win10, you may not be able to go back to win11 again, see the figure below for details.

    I'm thinking, the root cause of your inability to take screenshots is whether it is caused by Intel drivers or some of Intel's own assistant software. After uninstalling the Intel drivers and assistant software, you can try to take screenshots again. Check this link.

    Feel free to post back if you need more assistance.

    Best regards

    UPDATE: The function to turn off the fullscreen and display the game only in the window, it must be possible to set in the game itself, or set in the ini file or using the graphics mode. (Windows probably doesn't have this feature)

    However, I tried a random game and it works. I am attaching a photo for sure. So, this is obviously somehow related to the fullscreen. But how, I really don't get it.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

    From your description, you can take a screenshot in window mode, indicating that the problem is still in the system settings and graphics card. You can try the following steps to solve it:

    1. If you are using a game program, you can set the window to borderless full-screen mode in the game display settings, switch DX mode (directx11or directx12 etc), or enable disable vertical synchronization to see if it works.
    2. If you are using a program application, you can try to modify the displayed value of the registry and follow the steps below:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers\DCI]

    "Timeout"=dword:00000000

    Copy the above content into the Notepad application.

    Then click File in the upper left corner of the Notepad window, and click in the drop-down menu: Save as.

    In the Save As window, click Desktop, enter: printscreen.reg in the file name column, and then click: save;

    After we click save, a printscreen.reg registry file icon will be displayed on the system desktop. Double-click the printscreen.reg icon with the left mouse button, and a registry editor prompt dialog box pops up: Click: Yes (Y);

    1. You can also try to enter safe mode (disable driver mode) and take a screenshot to see if the screenshot is normal.

    Feel free to post back if you need more assistance.

    Best regards

    Hi

    Welcome to the Microsoft community and thank you for sharing your concern with us today. I understand from your message that you have a printscreen problem. We are here to help you with this issue.

    Judging from your description, it may be due to some settings of the graphics card or system settings that you cannot take a screenshot. You can try a clean boot to eliminate third-party software interference.

    (Disclaimer: A “clean boot” starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It helps to determine whether a background program is interfering with your game or program and to isolate the cause of a problem. These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by step so that it will help you get you back on track.)

    Or press alt+printscreen to take a screenshot of the active window to see if it helps. You can also try to disable the graphics card acceleration option to see if the normal screenshot cannot be taken because the graphics card acceleration is turned on.

    Let us know if it works.

    Best regards

    Hello,

    Unfortunately, I disabled all services, I left only Defender enabled in the startup and restarted.

    And the result? Nothing has changed. The print screen still does not work.

    And I don't have any dedicated graphics, only the one that was part of the Intel processor.

    This may be caused by an installed application. But I don't know when this problem arose, so I can only guess which one it is and whether uninstalling would help.

    Hi

    Thanks for your reply.

    Have you ever noticed that you can't take screenshots since about when? Have you ever updated your system or something else? You can try to **** restore your system to an earlier period when the system was normal and see if you can get back to normal screenshots.

    Let us know if it works.

    Best regards
