Help please

I had Windows 10 Pro (retail) installed on a PC that very recently fried (literally!). I bought a new PC which came with Windows Home pre-installed. So I now have two Windows licences it seems.

Despite many efforts including a fresh install of Win 10 I cannot upgrade my new PC from Windows Home to Windows Pro with the Pro retail key from my dead PC. All I ever get is this final response on the activation page:

The last product key (ID:00330-80000-00000-AA242) you entered can’t be used on this copy of Windows (error code 0x803fa067).”

It seems I can’t use my paid-for Pro retail key to upgrade an OEM version of Windows Home pre-installed on this newly bought PC? That can’t be right surely?

There was no relevant ‘Troubleshoot’ option available on the activation page either.

Windows Home version 21H2 4^th^ December 2021.

Sorry Carlo but I must have missed something here. As said I have a Windows Home licence (OEM) paid for via the purchase of a new PC last week. I also have a paid-for Windows Pro licence (retail) and the relevant activation key (that won’t activate) from a previous build.

And yet you seem to be advising me that the upgrade answer here is for me to go to the Microsoft Store and pay for yet another licence.

That can’t be right. Can it?

    Regards

    Tim

    Good Day TimWalkerwu,

I appreciate your time getting back to this thread, please visit this link and try these steps.

Select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Activation.

Under Upgrade your edition of Windows, select Go to the Store

Make sure you’re signed in with your Microsoft account to purchase Windows 10 Pro

After you confirm your purchase, you’ll be prompted to install Windows 10 Pro and restart your PC. You’ll then be running Windows 10 Pro.

Make sure that you are using the same email address associated with the digital license of Pro.

Have a wonderful day ahead of you and stay safe.

    Sincerely

    Hello Carlo

Thank you for your time and trouble.

Unfortunately, when first entered, the generic key you kindly supplied prompted the response, “We can’t reach our activation servers at the moment…..”

The second and subsequent times it was entered the response was back to, “We can’t activate Windows on this device because you don’t have a valid licence….”

Not being able to upgrade to Win 10 Pro is not the end of the world I know, but it is frustrating when I have a paid-for licence for it! If I could have purchased this new PC without Windows Home being pre-installed I would have. But it was a boxed, off the shelf buy from a major retailer here in the UK.

If you have any other suggestions they will be very welcome. Please excuse any time delay in replying to you.

    Regards

    Tim

    & Security -Click Activation

    -Look for Change Product Key

    Enter generic product key below:
