Windows 11 Microphone Not Working for Skype Despite Permissions

Skype has permission to access my microphone.

But when I make a test call and speak a message the message is not being recorded. The mic was working fine on Windows 10 but not working now that I've installed Windows 11. Thanks and Happy Holidays.

First of all ... my gratitude to Ruwim.B for holding my hand through this ordeal which gave me the motivation to keep digging. Finally the solution I found is the following:

I think that's self-explanatory but if not I will be glad to answer any questions.

One final question which I have: This is not a Skype problem. I posted it to the Skype section simply because that was the app complaining about not being able to find the mic. How to I get this to the Windows OS section where it belongs?

I can't help but wonder if problems such as this happen less often when the hardware and software are from the same company?

    Bob

In Skype click on the 3 dots (...) button and select Settings -> Audio & Video.

What exactly is the name of the device you see selected there as your Microphone? Is more than one selection option available there?

Make the free test call. What happens then?

Thanks for your continued involvement. Running dxdiag was no problem. And I saved the file to OneDrive. But I have been unable to find a way to get OneDrive to cough up a link. I can get a path but it is a path which will obviously work only on my laptop. I get the concept, I have used it for Dropbox files but I no longer use Dropbox. I looked at properties dialogs for OneDrive folders and files but could not find a way to get a public link. So the best I can do is to give you the more interesting pages from the dxdiag GUI output:

I hope I've provided what you wanted. And thanks again for your continue support. Bob

Please,  run the DirectX diagnostics tool.

Go to Windows Start  and in the Run box type dxdiag.exe and press the OK button. This will start the DirectX diagnostics program. Run this diagnostics and save the results to a file.

Since there is no Attachment option yet available on this Forum, you may post the saved file to a File Sharing site (e.g. OneDrive) and provide here a link to this site.

Thanks very much for responding. I did that this morning and IIRC saw two devices. One, I think, said something about default. The other one was, maybe, a product or manufacturer name. This laptop definitely has a mic - I used it at least weekly using Win10 and duo.google.com. All I've done since this morning is stumble around settings dialogs try to get an understanding of what might be wrong. In any event here is what I see now in Skype:

I've also found in the system Settings:

Again I don't understand why it does not find the mic which I know the laptop has? I did try the "Input devices" in the Advanced troubleshooting but it played a tone - as if it was speaker oriented. So I also tried "Output devices" and it also played a tone.

Thanks again for responding. I hope you have some additional advice. Thanks, Bob
