WIFI 5G max speed

Hello,

I have a HP laptop 250 G7 Notebook pc

Intel Core i3-1005G1 CPU @ 1.20 GHz

Wireless network card: Realtek RTL8821 CE 802.11ac PCIe adapter

S/N CND0335CNN

8GB Ram

Win 10 Home 64

Recently I upgraded my home internet download speed from 200MB to 500MB and upload speed from 20mb to 100 mb.

With previous speeds, and performing the speedtest at Oockla site while using the wireless5G connection I would get something like 201mbs wireless (I had contracted 200 mb download speed) and the upload would be something like 21mb (I had contracted 20mb upload).

Now since I upgraded to 500/100 MBS, while using the wireless 5G and doing again the speedtest, I get something like 250MB download and 101 upload...

So for the upload speed is great, but the download, I only get 50% of the contracted download speed of 500mb

I contacted HP support that inicially were unable to confirm me what is the Wireless adapter max speed, but they called me to inform it was 433 mbs max

Also I was told that when I had the 200 mb download speed the adapter would easily get the same speed, but now since the new speed is 500mb and the adapter max speed is 433mb, I should be satisfied with 250 mb, on cable I do have the 500 mbs

I updated driver and everything is up to date, even updated the BIOS and tried the Windows 11, but the speed on wireless 5G never gets higher than around 240/ 250 mbs

Anyone can help me and let me know if it's normal to get this speed? The guy at HP told me, that although the adapter has a max speed of 433 mbs, it will never deliver more than what I get now...I think that at least if should be able to do 350 mbs or even 400mb of download, but he said that the working range of the adapter is max around 250 mb,which I don't believe, otherwise why it would have a max speed of 433 mb download? The upload is fine

Help please

Yep, that is the correct place. It shows your system is capable of communicating at the speed you expect. So local conditions may be slowing it down.

Try moving the laptop to different locations. Check the signal strength and see if your speeds change..

How are you testing your speeds, with an online speed checker from the ISP?

When I try to look up the specs. on the card, I am not sure I am seeing the correct one. It does appear a little old and the fact it seems to be a 1x1 card, it may not be able to achieve the speeds you require even though it does show ac speed as 433 Mbps.

Do you have access to the card so you could change it out with a newer/better one if you wanted?

Your wireless router also has to be a concern as to its capabilities. It may be limiting is some way and a new card may not help if the router isn't up to the task. Double check the channel bandwidth you are using on the Router. It needs to be 80 MHz for the 433 speeds.

I already did and the speed is the same, since I'm not far, however I spoke with someone who told me that from 250 mbs up to the 433 mb goes something like 180mb of distance, which is still too much to get loss, since the adapter should do at least 350 mb...this makes me remember a Toshiba I have that the adapter is 10/100, and it did 70 mbs of download, a loss of 30%, here the loss is around 55%

In what are you based to support what you are stating?

    Hi JCosta1968 ,

the declared speed values of a Wi-Fi adapter are only theoretical, they are values obtained in the laboratory in optimal conditions and in the absence of disturbances. HP is right, in reality those declared nominal values will never be reached. Be satisfied with the speed you receive. If you want, you can try to repeat the test, positioning yourself with the laptop near the router.
