Dedicated Graphics - Nvidia Geforce MX450

Whenever my laptop wakes up from sleep, graphics rendering software like Android studio, Matlab fails to detect the HW graphics.

This issue persists irrespective of I rollback to default driver or update to latest driver.

Also , it is working fine after restarting the laptop.

Additional info: Laptop came with win10. I didn't perform much testing with that rather updated to win11 .

After few days of usage, I couldn't rollback to win10

What is the fix for this?

Thanks in advance

Hi Kaushik. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

If it isn't ten days since Upgrade it should roll back, if not from Recovery Settings then from WinRE Repair Mode:

    https://www.yourwindowsguide.com/2021/08/how-to...

The Display driver is so important here that merely updating it is sometimes not enough. So let's try everything possible to get it working correctly:

First make sure you have updated the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If necessary first remove the old driver using DDU https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/ddu-guide-t... (not necessary with Microsoft Basic driver which is a placeholder if nothing else is available) and/or installing in Safe Mode with Networking (so you have internet), or Safe Mode, accessed by one of these methods: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

If new driver still won't install DDU see Lightning Leon's Answer here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-US/subject/for...

If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia GeForce scanner here: https://www.nvidia.com/tr-tr/geforce/geforce-ex...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.

    Happy Holidays!

    Hey Greg,

Looks like that was a temporary gimmick . I kept it for sleep overnight and waked it up in the morning to see the Android emulator crashes.

Let me go through all the drivers listed in the HP page and hope for good results.

Meanwhile, what's your comment on the above behavior? Isn't Win 11 stable enough for working environment or Hardware manufacturer's drivers for Win 11 aren't stable or ??

Also, I couldn't rollback to Win 10 since I crossed the stipulated timeline. Is there any other way to do ?

I would not rely on the auto-detect - although you can first try HP Support Assistant which can work well to keep them updated (like my Dell Update does). But if not I'd go through them all on the HP Downloads page for your model. HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More HP® Customer Support

Anyway, glad to hear it's apparently fixed. I hope it sticks.

    Hey Greg,

    Thanks for your reply.

I guess the BIOS update did the trick. Did few sleep cycles and HW graphics was detected every time.

But still, in the device manager-system Firmware, before and after installation , it is showing same version and release date. I guess I had the latest version already (F08) but the release date shown in the website and the properties are not same.

Also, when I run Auto detect utility for the drivers, it says, all drivers are up to date. This was true before installing the Firmware but still I was able to download and install the Firmware.

Not sure what is happening here. Hoping that the device continues to work fine as now.

Also, Nvidia website shows a recent release for the graphics driver which is not shown in the HP site. Should I proceed installing the recent Nvidia driver or ??
