When will Windows11 add support for more Intel i7 processors?

I currently have an Intel Core i7-4500U processor in my laptop (older, but still works great with Windows10). I purchased this laptop in an attempt to future proof myself; better processor, better chances of upgrading in the future. This does not seem to be the case with the Windows 11 upgrade. My understanding is that Windows11 currently supports most Intel Core i3 and i5 processors. For some reason, only a small number of Intel Core i7 processors are supported. Unfortunately mine is not one of them. Do the Intel Core i7 processors have a flaw which prevent them from functioning with the Windows 11 operating system? or... Did Microsoft somehow overlook a very popular processor when designing Windows11? Will additional i7 processors be supported in the near future?

    >"But it is recommended to update your processor for better support."

There is no way you can update CPU in old device with 4th Gen CPU to support Windows 11. Sockets and chip sets aren't compatible with Windows 11 supported CPU's.

Beside just like this CPU (i7-4500U) many CPU's used in laptops has FCBGAxxx (BGA = Ball Grid Array) socket which are soldered directly to mother board --> no way to update.

    >"My understanding is that Windows11 currently supports most Intel Core i3 and i5 processors."

It's not depend on iX number but key thing is generation. All i3 or i5 must be gen 8 or later but

there is also few gen 7 i7 CPU's which are also supported.

    >"For some reason, only a small number of Intel Core i7 processors are supported."

Some statistics from supported CPU's list:

    i3: 50 supported CPU's

    i5: 91 supported CPU's

    i7: 76 supported CPU's

    i9: 43 supported CPU's

Hello, I'm A&K. I'm glad to be able to help you.

You can see Windows 11 supported processors there,

    AMD: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardwa...

    Intel: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardwa...

Unfortunately, Windows 11 only supports 8th generation and above Intel processors and a small number of 7th generation Intel processors, and they will no longer add support for older processors in the future. If your other hardware meets the requirements, you can force install Windows 11, and in most cases, it will work fine. But it is recommended to update your processor for better support.
