Trying to share a file

I'm an individual and trying to share a large zip file that is too large to be sent through gmail. Is OneDrive similar to Dropbox in that I can share a link and the other person should be able to access the document through the link? Do I need to be working on the computer at the time they try to access the link for them to open the link? (that seems bizarre, but I did read it somewhere). Can I share a zip file? or do I need to share the individual files inside the zip file? Thank you.

    Hi AndreaCompton1,

I'm Rodrigo and I will help you.

Yes, you can share a link to a file on OneDrive, it is easy and simple.

Move the file to your OneDrive folder, right-click the file > Share > Copy Link

On "Anyone with the link can edit" (Globe icon) you can edit the permissions

That's it, the link is already on your clipboard and you can send it to anyone you want.

Wait for the file completely uploads before disconnecting from the internet or turning off the computer, when the upload completes, you can see the green check next to the file.

After uploading, your device doesn't need to be on or connected for the other person to access it.

    Yes probably no yes no.

You can share whatever thing on there you want. If they are stored in full form on there, then you should not need to be on the computer. So yes, you can share a zip file, or you can decompress it and share each file.
