I recently bought a new pc

but i noticed tonight that the user folder with all my files and music has been set to save on the smaller ssd drive in the pc with the rest of the apps instead of the 1 tb drive

i dont want to be in a position somewhere down the line where i'm running out of memory on the main drive. so is there any way to change the default location of my users folder as a whole?

i tried changing the location from the properties window but there was no option to change the location

    thank you for your response

at a rough estimate by moving the documents and music folders alone i could gain approximately 50GB back from the SSD drive.

i noticed an option in the control pannel section of my pc last night for changing the default locations where some types of documents are saved by default, i wouldnt plan to change the location of apps that i would install, but changing the new documents setting and music setting would be beneficial

you cannot change the "LOCATION" of your "USERS" folder

Instead, you have to change the "LOCATION" of each folder

    music, photos, docs, etc individually.

    Hi Knight,

I am Sumit here to assist you with this question.

Redirecting the Users folder is not recommended because it would lead to installation failure of future updates.

How much space are you able to gain if you move Downloads, Documents, Desktop folder to the other drive which officially is supported?

At the end of the article, you can see the tutorials for other folders too, like Downloads and Documents. You would be prompted to move the existing contents for which you need to press yes.

Yes, you can change these settings too. As apps include Games, many people move the same to D drive too as Games size can be large as well.

    Hope that helps.
