Hi,
I have two PC's connected to a LAN that does not have internet access. All computers (and a couple industrial automation components) are assigned a fixed IP address within the range 192.168.3.x (subnet mask 255.255.255.0). The two PC's I have connected to this LAN are assigned to the same Workgroup (called 'Main'). One PC is running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit. The other PC is running Windows XP Pro. I'd like to copy some files and folders between these two PC's using Windows File and Printer Sharing. I have File and Printer sharing enabled on both PC's. I have created a shared folder on each PC to which I have assigned "full control" sharing and security permissions to the Everyone group. I am able to successfully ping from each PC to the other PC. On the Windows XP PC, I do see the Windows 10 PC when I select "View Workgroup Computers". When I double-click on the Windows 10 PC, I get a message saying \MyWin10_PC is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The specified network name is no longer available. On the Windows 10 PC, I do not see the Windows XP PC when I browse my network. When this has been the case for me in other similar situations (with the same Windows 10 PC but on different networks), I have been able to access network shares by typing the name of the PC I want to access in File Explorer as \PC_Name. When I try this in this situation, I get a message saying "Windows can't find \PC_Name. Please try again.
Both of these computers are running the Windows Firewall that came with the corresponding version of Windows, but I have it disabled on both PC's. I do not believe there is any 3rd party (other than Microsoft) security software installed on either PC. If anyone can give me an idea how I can go about figuring out what is preventing me from sharing files between these two PC's, I would greatly appreciate it.
Than
