Dear Folks --- I am 80 years old (young) and can operate my computer but basically an computer illiterate. For many years I used Movie Maker when I had Windows 7. Then, I had a technician convert my computer to Windows 10 - I do not like it - probably because I was so used to using Windows 7. However my BIG problem is that NOW, I do not have Movie Maker. SO, I purchased Movie Maker Pro from Microsoft, had them install it - AND - find I cannot operate it. I have tried to understand some available tutorials but they did not help. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE - is there any way that I can somehow, have the Movie Maker (from Windows 7) installed on my computer, which is now Windows 10. I do not expect this for "free" and would be willing to pay MORE THAN a reasonable price to achieve this. I only hope that it would be the same that I used when I had it on my old Windows 7 installation. PLEASE HELP - being as unknowledgeable as I am, I have spent tens of hours trying to find an answer to this - OR - can you direct me to a person or company who I can pay to have this done. Thank you very much. Rogers Liddle at ******@hawaii.rr.com. OR!!! since I own another computer, can I use it to re-install Windows 7 with Movie Maker - make the movies I desire - and then transfer the completed movies back to my current Windows 10 computer???

Please try running the installer while offline - disconnect from Wi-Fi or Ethernet & try again.

The error can also occur if Live Essentials was previously installed:

Check to see if there’s a folder under C:\ Program Files if yes then delete this folder.

Then click & hold the Windows key + R to open the run screen & enter: ‘%Userprofile%\AppData\Local\microsoft & click enter, once there delete any subdirectory with Windows Live in the name (Windows Live Mail), if unsure then please post a screenshot.

Then open the run screen again & enter regedit & find:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows Live Mail

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows Live Mail

HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows Live Mail Desktop

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows Live Mail Desktop

Right click on each entry & choose delete - please delete only these entries, if unsure then please post a screenshot.

If you would prefer not to try these then let me know.

Dear Time Lady (Virginia) --- SO, I tried to download - pressed your link - found the download button in the lower left hand portion of the screen, and pressed it - and chose to only download the Movie Maker/Photos - and received this message that I am going to attempt to attach, I hope you receive it. If you do receive it, what do you suggest I do next - but remember, I am not to good at doing this kind of stuff. Rogers Liddle ----- Well, I guess I cannot figure out how to attach what came up on the screen - SO - this is what it said to me.

    Couldn't install programs

    An unknown error occurred.

    Error: 0x800c0006

    Source: UXPlatformLang

Any suggestions --- sorry I am so dumb about this stuff. Rogers Liddle

Hello again Rogers Liddel, you’re very welcome. The MediaFire link I posted will download Windows Live Essentials so there’s no need to install MediaFire itself beforehand.

This is free to download & use.

When you run Live Essentials it will offer you the option to install all Live programs or you can choose the one/s you wish. I still use the Mail & Movie Maker/Photos; the photos purely for the photo screensaver.

    I reside in the U.K. :)

Dear TIME LADY (Virginia) --- thank you so much for your reply. I know it probably sounds stupid, however, I am proud of myself as I was able to find the answer to the question you ask ABOVE. I found I am running Windows 10 build 21H1 - AND - yes, I am referring to the Windows Movie Maker which came as part of Windows Live Essentials. This is the program I used for many year and I am familiar with - and I am trying to install so I can use it on my computer which is now Windows 10.

I only mentioned the other Movie Maker program (Movie Maker Pro) - as yesterday, I purchased it from Microsoft and they installed it for me - AND - I just could not figure out how to make it work. SO - I reverted my search (back again) for the original Movie Maker in the Windows Live Essentials which I previously had - and came across YOU.

SO --- should I proceed in downloading the "mediafire" program that you suggested above???

And please tell me, when I download it, does it automatically download the Windows 7, Movie Maker in the Windows Essentials - OR - does it forward me to choose something to purchase --- as before, I do not mind paying for this Movie Maker program - BUT - will I be able to choose the correct program to download? AND, thank you so very much for answering me, I truly appreciate you help and time. Rogers Liddle. By the way, is there any chance that you reside here in Hawaii?

Hello, I’m Virginia, I have 20 years of expertise in fixing my own & friends’ PC problems.

Sorry to hear you’re experiencing problems. May I ask which Windows 10 build are you running - 2004, 20H2, 21H1 or 21H2?

Are you referring to Windows Movie Maker which came as part of Windows Live Essentials or another Movie Maker program?

Live essentials is no longer supported but does work on Windows 10 (& 11) as I have Live Mail & Movie Maker installed.

I have saved the Windows Live Essentials 2012 installer which can be downloaded from my MediaFire account:
