Pause Media Key not being recognized

My Play/Pause key is not working, it's behavior is really weird. It works and then randomly stops working. And that won't change. Skip or Volume Up/Down are working fine though.

The only "fix" that temporary helped was booting in safe mode and then back to normal mode. But that isn't a long time fix for me. Always rebooting the pc costs much time.

The key is somehow working in a VM.

My Windows: Windows 10 Pro 21H2 Build 19044.1466

    Hi Lynn,

I now randomly found out that this problem is somehow related to Discord. To be more precise, after playing a YouTube Video inside the app. This makes the Play/Pause button stop working. Spotify won't react (or the normal YouTube), even after starting manually. Only fix for this is to restart Discord. I'll try to contact the Devs about this bug.

Anyway, thank you for your help!

    Best Regards,

    Luca

    Hi EckigerLuca,

If the problem still exists after the above troubleshooting, it is indeed a problem with the application itself. Contacting the developer is recommended where more in-depth investigation can be done so that you would get a more satisfying explanation and solution to this issue.

And do get back to us for any issues pertaining in the future. We will be glad to assist.

    Hi EckigerLuca,

Thanks for querying in Microsoft Community.

In order to provide you with better assistance, I would like to understand your situation better:

What app do you refer to that its Play/Pause key randomly stops working?

Based on the fix you've tried, the following solution can be applied further:

    1. Temporarily close the third-party security programs and optimization software that may exist under the system (with firewall nature), and perform a clean boot on your system: Press and hold Windows+R > Enter msconfig > Hit Enter > Click on Services > Check to hide Microsoft services > Click Disable All > Reboot the device, and confirm if the problem solved.
    2. Hold down Windows + X and open Apps & Features > Find and select the app you'd like to fix > Click Advanced Options > Reset > OK.
    3. Hold down Windows + X and open Device Manager > Expand Display Adapter > Select the graphic card > Click Properties > Uninstall > OK > And then access the brand official website to download the latest version of graphics driver to install it to your Windows.
    4. Also, Press Windows + I to launch Settings > Click Updates & Securities > Check and update your Windows to the date.

Moreover, if any concerns related to VM, it is more appropriate to be posted in IT Pro docs.microsoft.com forums. You can click Q&A to post your question.

Feel free to keep me posted how it goes.

    Best Regards,
