I cannot install either Geforce experience or Nvidia drivers on my win10 PC (the error I got is "Nvidia Install An unknown error has occurred')

Hi

yesterday I decided to install the graphics driver that came with my GPU (GT 1030) in order to see how CS GO would perform the installation process started normally then the installer setup removed the old drivers and instead of installing the driver I was presented with "an unknown error has occurred" error. then I decided to install the newest drivers available (511.23) and I got the same error. I tried to uninstall and remove all Nvidia related software (and files and folders) on my PC which I could not do through control panel > Programs so I used DDU software in safe mode in order to remove old drivers then I tried to install the newest drivers again which failed and I got the aforementioned error. I downloaded Geforce Experience from Nvidia.com in order to install the drivers but that one also failed to install and I got the same error. I even located the setup.exe in c;/Nvidia/displaydrivers and when I clicked on it I got the aforementioned error. It seems as though anything Nvidia related refuses to get installed/uninstalled on/from my PC which is a weird problem.

I updated windows last night and it did not solve this problem.

I have managed to install to the newest graphics driver through device manager but I do not have Nvidia Control Panel because I removed that as well as the rest of Nvidia related software, It works for now but I'm afraid It'll cause problems with games.

Has anybody got an idea why it has happened or how I can resolve this?

I'm sorry I didn't make it clear, but if you have Nvidia Control Panel installed you do not need GeForce Experience.

Try uninstalling from Settings > Apps > Apps & Features. If the app cannot be installed from there then here is how to uninstall Apps that cannot be uninstalled:

Feel free to ask back any questions. If you'll report back results for each step it can help determine what else needs to be tried. I will stick with you until it is fixed.

Hi Distressed. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

Uninstall any remnants of GeForce Experience in Settings > Apps > Apps & Features, and delete in C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files (86).

Then if you know you need it to maintain Settings that Windows cannot, install Nvidia Control panel from the Microsoft Store App where it now resides.

thanks for your help one issue was resolved now I have Nvidia Control Panel installed but I still cannot install either Geforce experience or graphics drivers. I still get "an unknown error has occurred" when I click on Geforce Experience installer exe or when I try to install NVIDIA graphics driver. there no Geforce Experience remnants on my PC it doesn't show up in Apps & Features.

I've just noticed something when I opened Control Panel > Programs > Programs & features there's an NVIDIA Graphics Driver 456.71 when I try to uninstall it I get this error "RunDLL there was a problem staring c;/program files/NVIDIA Corporation/Installer2/InstallerCore/NVI2.DLL" which is probably because I've totally deleted NVIDIA Corporation folder by using DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) there's no such folder in c:/program files or c:/program files x86

There's one more thing, I cannot uninstall Geforce Now service, it got installed and seems to be working fine but I cannot uninstall it.
