Scanner connection problem

Just converter to Windows 11. I have an Epson Perfection V370 scanner connected to a USB port. The laptop recognizes the scanner's presence. However, neither Windows Scan nor Epson scan software "sees" the scanner. In other words, the scanner hardware is recognized; however, neither scanner application works. I did download Epson's Windows 11 driver.

None of these fixes worked for me. I have a Brother all-in-one, and an Epson FF-680W photo scanner. The printer would work, but the scan feature would not work for the Brother or the Epson. I could get them to work if I restarted my computer, then used them right away. I tried several things, including deleting and reinstalling the drivers. I eventually called Epson, and they gave me the fix.

Go into the Task Manager (Control-Alt-Delete), then go to Services, find StiSvc. Right click on it, and choose "Restart".

They now both work. I just fixed it today, so I don't know if the problem will reappear, but it's been working for several hours now.

    Good Luck!

Thank you, Carlo, for pointing me in the right direction. I did get my scanner working again. After I upgraded to Win 11 a week ago, I did indeed go to the Epson web site and found their Win 11 driver. I loaded it then, and everything worked (i.e., both the Epson Scan and the Win 11 Scan applications). It was when I tried to scan today that the laptop could not communicate with the scanner.

After reading your message today, I opened Device Manager and found my scanner listed under Imaging devices, not printers. (The Epson Perfection V370 Photo is a flat bed scanner not attached to a printer.) In fact, it was listed twice. I deleted both instantiations. Since I had retained the new Epson driver from my initial acquisition, I ran it again. This time the scanner software started working again—both the Epson Scan app and the Win 11 Scan app.

I can only guess that one of the Win 11 updates that updated my laptop since initial installation caused the scanner driver upset.

    Thanks, again, for your guidance.

    Lawrence

Once uninstalled, go to this link and download and install the drivers.

    https://ftp.epson.com/drivers/V37_V370_EScan_39...

You shouldn't link to an FTP server that will cause the driver to be downloaded automatically. Here is the link to the driver page on the Epson website: Epson Perfection V370 | Perfection Series | Scanners | Support | Epson US

Thanks, Jim. Please see my reply post to Carlo TJ. Additionally, seeing your reference to the .exe file reminded me that I had already downloaded the Epson scanner driver a week ago.

Everything seems to be working again. I only wish I knew what caused the disruption.
