My internet security provider seems very good at identify problems only as an excuse to get you to pay for or subscribe to yet another service. Almost seems like a cyber protection racket. Anyway, this morning my well known internet security provider popped a message up saying I had a number broken registry issues on my HP laptop. Of course they now want to sell another product to fix it. It would be hugely appreciated if someone could let me know in layman;s language how to fix it myself . Thank you all very much.

    Hi jlee77,

I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

Don't worry about this message. It's just a way to encourage you to purchase some service from them.

Your computer probably doesn't have any problems. But if you want to check your system's integrity, you can use System File Checker.

    1. Open Start and type cmd, right-click on "Command Prompt", and select "Run as administrator".
    2. Run the following commands at the Command Prompt one at a time:

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

    dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup

    sfc /scannow

    1. Restart the PC and see if the problem is resolved.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions.

    Hello David

Thank you for email and advice. I seem to have run into a more fundamental problem, when I enter Command Prompt. First, I am Administrator on the account and I confirmed this when I went into the Control Panel and checked User.

When I went into Command Prompt and typed in cmd I got looped back to Command Prompt with no "Run as Administrator" option. This happened every time. Then tried, to put in the recommended command and got an error message. All illustrated below. Am I doing something wrong? Is there something else I should be doing?

    Again many thanks.

    Jim77
