Losing sound on Video Editor when undertaking a trim

Microsoft Photos now has a new video editor. Previously I could trim a video by a simple process and all was well with the trimmed version. Now I find that I have lost the sound when I undertake a trim using the new video editor; there is good sound on the untrimmed MP4 file . What steps am I missing please?

    Good day

Thank you for using  Microsoft Community!

I understand from your description during a trim, there is no sound in your Video Editor.

We tested your situation by recording a .MP4 video by camera and trim it in Video Editor.

And we found that, during trimming, there is still sound in the video.

You may please right click sound icon in the right corner of the button and Open Volume mixer to check if there is sound when trimming the video.

And could you please tell me is the specific .MP4 file lost sound or all media files lost sound?

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Best Regards,

I've had an identical problem today using MS Video Editor.

Bringing in a long (1hr) MP4 video recording, I successfully split it and added another MP4 segment in the middle with no loss of sound, but whenever I tried to trim the first segment or add an initial title card, the sound disappeared, sometimes on both halves of the original clip, sometimes for the whole video.

I've checked the Volume Mixer as per your suggestion (all good), but after half a dozen attempts, still no joy.

So I saved the original MP4 files to some cloud storage, and tried again using MS Video Editor on another PC.
No problem at all - perfect.
But now I've got to re-save to the cloud and then back to my original device.
So I'm glad to have been able to do it, but not the easiest way round.

    The initial PC was a Lenovo IdeaPad 5 15IIL05 (i5-1035V1, 8GB RAM) with Windows 10 Pro for Workstations 10.0.19042;
the successful machine was an older Dell Inspiron 5567 (i7-7500U, 16GB RAM) with Windows 10 Pro 10.0.19043.

Thank you for this helpful response Silvia - and I appreciate your running a test trim with a fresh video from a camera.

I have now successfully managed to trim the target MP4 with audio - third time around. I tried with three further MP4s from different cameras. Success eventually with all three: two were good first time around - but one was second time around.

I was initially inclined to put the initial try down to my unfamiliarity with the new video editor - but 3 failures out of 7 attempts makes me wonder if this is an intermittent problem. I can live with such intermittency for now as I don't use video a lot.

    Happy Christmas.
