Hello, Thunderbolt 3 connection has stopped working for the last two weeks. When installing the driver, it gives an error 0x80070643. A complete reinstallation of Windows did not help fix the error, my Asus PRIME Z370-A II motherboard is connected to it in addition to ASUS ThunderboltEX 3, the current BIOS version is installed. The Bios has Thunderbolt 3 support enabled and I am using Windows 10 with the latest updates. Please help me solve the problem.

    YAY!

I used Device Manager > System Devices and uninstalled Thunderbolt Controller AND deleted drivers (checkbox)

Ran the .msi and was successful ! (Restart Required)

For those having issues, the log file should help some.

My specific issue, was that the DCH.msi install kept failing for some reason. That installer is only created temporarily during install.

What I did to get it installed was:

    1. Navigated to "C:\ProgramData\Package Cache"
    2. MOVE (cut/paste) everything in here to another folder (I named it BACKUP) on my desktop.
    3. Made a new folder on my desktop ( I named it TEMP)
    4. I had 3 windows open; the folder with the Thunderbolt Software installer, the Package Cache folder, and the TEMP folder.

NOTE: THIS NEXT PART YOU NEED TO BE QUICK - IT MAY TAKE A FEW TIMES TO GET RIGHT

    1. I ran the Thunderbolt Software installer and waited until folders started appearing in the Package Cache folder.
    2. As soon as I started seeing folders (I believe there may only be 4 or 5) I highlighted them all and then copied them to the TEMP folder.

NOTE2: If the folders disappeared before you could copy them, delete whatever is left in Package Cache and try steps 5 & 6 again.

    1. After the Thunderbolt Software installer fails again, you can close it.
    2. Go into each of the folders in the TEMP folder and look for the DCH.msi (the name might be slightly different)
    3. Once you find that, try to install that DCH.msi driver installer and it will probably tell you to reboot the computer.
    4. Reboot the computer and try running the Thunderbolt Software installer again (mine worked)
    5. After you are finished, make sure to move/copy back everything that should be in your BACKUP folder on the desktop.

    hofben

I think you got this correct here for many of us. Seems the Thunderbolt is already running and when you go to install the driver the installer isn't able to handle it or do repair like some drivers do or allow you to install over and well you end up with the error. It does prompt a uninstall but if not uninstall from device manager it doesn't work. Something like that. You got me thinking why didn't i do that :-). Thank you for your input . Worked for me , only had one running under device manager and system devices it was running at Thunderbolt.... as it was listed. Woohoo! fixed. :-)

and if you see this and can't see what hofben wrote.

uninstall from device manager - system devices - Thunderbolt...

Then try and run the installer for your thunderbolt port. It should work.

I called Microsoft support, they were able to find a solution to the problem, the intel driver itself was not installed, but the computer was able to install its internal drivers and find my device connected using Thunderbolt 3. First, you need to install the latest Windows 10 updates, then go to the command line "cmd" as administrator and use these commands in the same order

    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptsvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptsvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

then try to turn on your device connected by Thunderbolt 3. It helped me and the computer installed the driver and detected my device. Hope it helps you.

Hello Talita, none of the solutions you suggested fix the problem =(

Intel driver throws this error during installation. attached a photo, the Asus driver for Thunderboltex 3, also fails to install. Asus support refers to the fact that the problem is due to the latest Windows 10 updates and sends me to you so that you can help solve the problem.
