Switch pro controller not detected by my PC.

Hi. Plugging in my switch pro controller into my PC does nothing: The controller simply isn't detected as any sort of USB device. There is no USB connection sound. It does not show up in devices and printers and it does not show up in device manager as any sort of USB device.

Plugging my controller into my laptop yields the blue ring light around the home button and the connection sound. Initially it showed up as an unspecified device then windows installed the drivers and it showed up as a pro controller. Unfortunately, my laptop is not a gaming laptop and I would like the controller to work on my PC.

Just wondering how I could get my PC to detect the Pro Controller.

Hi Spectronium7, welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Bruno Leonel, I am happy to help you.

I understand that you are having problems regarding the Switch pro controller and I will try to help you in the best way possible.

Windows 10 only accepts approved and supported devices, I mean the availability of drivers by the manufacturer, in the case of the Switch controller, Nintendo does not provide drivers, there are dozens of videos with tips but none of them works satisfactorily, even when the controller is detected it is not configurable or fails during the game, the functional and homologated controller for Windows 10 is the XboxOne controller.

In that case you have two options:

    1. Start steam in big picture mode and manually add controller in controller options, it works only in big picture mode and only works for steam games.
    2. Download BetterJoyForCemu, which is initially a program for a Nintendo Switch emulator, but it will make your controller work on Windows, just like every game you have on your PC. Just launch BetterJoyForCemu and click "Locate", which will make the controller vibrate if everything works fine.

If you have a Nintendo Switch ON, it's best to turn it off, as the controller will connect to your PC and your Switch at the same time.

Ok I understand that there are no official drivers supplied by Nintendo. I am wondering why the controller works on my laptop and windows was able to download a driver for the controller if my desktop was unable to do so?

Hi there. I tried configuring my controller through steam, however steam returns the error message that no controllers are detected, therefore I cannot configure my steam controller.

I think I should reiterate that my controller is not detected as plugged into my pc: there is no USB connection sound and it does not show up under devices and printers.

Am I missing a configuration step?
