How do I change my monitor Aspect Ratio?

This questions seems to come up every time there is a new update, but looks like since the update of Feb 2022, Microsoft has again changed or hidden how to do it.

Most answers relate to right clicking the desktop and going to graphic card, or going into personalize and customization, all of which options no longer exist.

So here we got again..

Does anyone know how to change the Aspect Ratio of a monitor now?

Microsoft, why? Why do you always change it? what is the point?

Hello Greg, you are either misunderstanding or work for microsoft and dancing around the issue.

There is no distortion or resolution issue for me to take a picture of. Even if there was it would be irrelevant to the question.

I am looking for the setting that allows me to change the aspect ratio. that is it

And it appears to be something windows has removed completely.

    Hello Greg,

Yes I could do this before the update. All information online about how to do this is now obsolete.

Issue is I can not find where I can change the aspect ratio of my monitor.

Should be a simple answer for anyone that knows it.

How do I change the aspect ratio?

If anyone knows how to change the aspect ratio please let me know.

    Sam -

Have you tried to System Restore to a point before the problem began following this guide: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

System Restore is your first line of defense and can take you back to a point before a problem began like a time machine. If it doesn't help then you can undo it. Read about it first in the tutorial above and then try restoring to just before this started.

If the problem repeats or System Restore doesn't work then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here which I would install now so it's ready:

    https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/8280-hide-s...

There are some suggestions I found in these threads that might help:

Keep me posted on your progress as I will be here to help until the case is resolved.

hello the first link you gave me is one of the answers I referenced in my original post.

the answer in that link is "Go to your graphics card control panel by right-clicking on your computer screen and selecting the graphics settings (example: Intel Graphics Settings)."

This is not an option anymore, there is no such thing.

Thank you about the drivers. I am operating on a bran new Microsoft surface 3 with all up to date drivers.

But regardless, what I am looking to do is manual change the aspect ratio. Does anyone know where to change the aspect ratio.

All I want to do is change the aspect ratio

Hi Sam. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, specializing in Installation, Performance, Troubleshooting and Activation, here to help you.

The Aspect Ratio is normally controlled in the Video card settings or the monitor. See here:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/screen-aspect-ra...

(Avoid ad links which intrude into editorial copy, especially avoid Restoro, PC Repair Tool and Reimage ads)

    https://frameboxxindore.com/windows/how-to-chan...

Make sure you have updated the Display driver from the PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If necessary first remove the old driver using DDU https://www.wagnardsoft.com/content/ddu-guide-t... (not necessary with Microsoft Basic driver which is a placeholder if nothing else is available) and/or installing in Safe Mode with Networking (so you have internet), or Safe Mode, accessed by one of these methods: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf...

If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia GeForce scanner here: https://www.nvidia.com/tr-tr/geforce/geforce-ex...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

You can also try installing the driver in Compatibility Mode:

    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/win...

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display.

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the results you post back I may have other suggestions if necessary.
