computer sharing files in same network

Both my computers are running Windows 11. Both are on the same network and set as Private connection. Both computers have the documents folder set as Shared with everyone. Shared Experiences -Nearby sharing is turn on. One computer lets me move files to the other, while the other does not. Error message saying that I need permission to do this.

 The one computer that is fully sharing is set in wi-fi properties as “Allow other network users to connect through the computer’s internet connection”
When I try to set this option in computer #2 it says that the wi-fi connection must be set to Private. But I checked several times and it is.

Does anyone have another suggestion?

Thanks, Richard Burkart

    I have done everything above except changing the Security in the Properties folder. I will try that.

    Both computers can see each other on the network. I can access 5 folders: Documents, Music, User, Pictures and Desktop. I can open the folders on each and view. When I trying to copy (for example a Word Doc) from computer #1 to computer #2 and error messages says I do not have the right (or similar words to do so). But I can copy from #2 to #1 with no problem.

    All 5 folders on both computers are set up to Share: Read and Write.

    On computer #2 in the wi-fi Properties (seen below), when I click on "Allow other network users to connect through this computer's Internet connection" the check mark appears. But when I click ok it says that the pc's network must be set to Private instead of Public for this action.

    Both PCs are set to Private networks

    Thanks for your fast response. Richard

    Hi RichardBurkart_008, welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Bruno Leonel, I am happy to help you.

    I understand that you have a problem with your network share, and I'm sorry about that.

    For understanding, do you have a computer that accesses the My Documents folder from another computer normally and another that is accessed does not access the other correct?

    Both shared folders are the documents;

    In this case we will do this:

    The one that accesses everything = PC01.

    What does not access the other = PC02.

    Do the steps below on PC01.

    In the folder you want to share on your PC 1 Right click and "Grant access to" > Specific people. Add "everyone" and select read and write > share.

    Right click on the same folder and select properties.

    In the security tab, check that "everyone" has access to everything.

    If not, change it to "full control"

    If you're not seeing "all", click advanced > add > Select a principal. Enter all and click verify names. Select Full Control and click OK.

    Type Control Panel in the search bar;

    Click on the option to open the Control Panel;

    In the options that appear, click on Network and Internet;

    On this screen, the Network and Sharing Center option will be presented.

    Click on change sharing options for different network profiles

    Expand "All Networks" Public Folder Sharing Select the option > Enable sharing for anyone........"

    For password-protected sharing, choose Turn off password-protected sharing.

    Try access now with PC02.

    If the answer helped in any way, please mark it as an answer, if your question has not been solved, please post again.

    I hope I helped, see you later!

    Yes all 3, Private, Guest or Public and All Networks are in discovery mode and checked to share

    I have not tried checking the Properties Security yet. My wife has been on it. It may have to wait for tomorrow.

    Thanks for helping,

    Richard

    I was able to see my wife's Network and folders from my PC. I was able to check the Security settings in the properties folder. Only one (Pictures -see at the bottom) was checked to share with Everyone. The other 4 are not. I will wait until she is off the pc and change the setting.

    Also I was able to add a photo from my computer to hers with no problem.

    This should do it, if not I will let you know.

    Thanks so much, richard

    I understand, see if you can configure the properties. However, a few more questions:

    Type Control Panel in the search bar;

    Click on the option to open the Control Panel;

    In the options that appear, click on Network and Internet;

    On this screen, the Network and Sharing Center option will be presented.

    Click on change Advanced sharing options

    In the private option, is Network Discovery enabled?

    In the checkbox, is the automatic settings for devices connected to the network also active?

    In the guest or public tab are both checkboxes active?

    I await your reply, see you later!
