How to change Microsoft Account I use with Windows 11?

I mistakenly entered the wrong Microsoft account when installing Windows 11. Added the other account that I wanted to use instead, but under Email and Accounts, only the one I want to keep has a Remove button, and the one I want to eliminate has none. How do I change the Microsoft Account I use with Win 11?

Then do you mean you synced your local data to the wrong OneDrive account then?

For me I use OneDrive so signing into the wrong OneDrive account would mess up my cloud data.

I have all my accounts synced to my PC on Windows 11.

If you did a clean install then no local data should be affected.

Just switch over to the other account in the start menu after you add the account.

"Dell" has a local account on my PC also. I figure that's for them to use if I call upon them for help.

Good day KurtVogel! I am glad to be able to provide assistance to you today. I understand that you are looking into changing to a different Microsoft account in Windows 11. Kindly check and try the below and see how it goes.

    Method 1:

    • If you have already logged in on that account that you are trying to switch to then go to Start > right-click the account name icon (or picture) > select Switch user
    • If you have not yet logged in on that account then try to do it and then go back to the other account and try to switch it again and once done then to try to remove the account that you will not use

    Method 2:

    • Try to switch to a local account instead and then go back to using the MS account of your preference
    • Press Windows key + I
    • Click Accounts
    • Click Your Info and choose Sign in with a local account instead
    • Click next and enter your password to confirm
    • Follow the steps on the screen and enter your information
    • Once done switching to a local account then try to remove first the account that you will not use and then go back to accounts again and try switching to an MS account and use the ones that you wanted

    Regards,

    Paul R.

    Thanks for the reply.

Method 1. Tried that, but there is no option "Switch User". Method 2. When I switch to a local administrator account, no Microsoft accounts appear in settings , so nothing I can do to eliminate one.

I noticed that when I click on "Manage" under Email and Accounts -> Account Settings, the Microsoft account that I want to use (the only one that has a remove button) shows my computer under "Devices". When I do the same with the Microsoft Account that I don't want to use and has no "remove button", it says "We don't see any devices".
