Windows 11 does NOT support an i7 processor??

I spent $2500 on this high-end laptop about 2 years ago. It has an Intel i7-6700 CPU @ 2.60 Ghz and 32 GBs of Ram and you do NOT support it? Do you really think I am going to go buy another high-end laptop JUST to run Windows 11?? We're also Windows 365 subscribers. But not a chance. Too bad you're a monopoly, or I'd ditch Windows and your censorship all at once.

    Hi,

you can upgrade to Windows 11 without meeting the requirements by changing a few registry keys. You should find plenty of work arounds when you google it.

You could also keep using Windows 10 until 2025. By then, you should probably opt for buying a new PC.

If you want to completely ditch Microsoft, you can also switch to Linux, however you probably will get problems with that. (No Windows software, driver issues with NVidia cards, not a user friendly... But nice if you're looking for a challenge.)

Addition: To clarify WHY it doesn't work: Microsoft is beefing up security in Windows 11, making hardware security mandatory. This includes a modern CPU, with an fTPM integrated. These old chips (7th gen and older) may have the performance to run Windows 11, but have hardware security vulnerabilities that can't be patched by software. Examples for that are things like the Spectre and Meltdown malwares, and other malware that exploit specific vulnerabilities in the systems hardware. Since these are problems with the systems hardware, they can't be fixed by simply installing Updates or an antivirus.

    Regards,

There are ways and means to install Windows 11 on so called "unsupported CPU's" also without the TPM. I have Windows 11 installed on an Intel i7 4790K without a TPM. Runs perfectly fine and am also getting All the monthly updates.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. Wasn't sure how these boards work, as most of my questions on other boards go unanswered. I do appreciate your time.

Just seems ironic that there are tons of i3 and i5 processors supported, but not this particular i7. If there is anything you can do to help get these processors supported, that would be great. I can't afford right now another $2500-3k laptop! Thanks again.

Hi, thanks for replying, actually as of the moment there is no update yet when the lower generation of processors will be supported.

Moreover, all i3, i5, and i7 are all supported as long as it is 8Th generation and up.

    For Example:

You are using Intel i7-6700 CPU

then 6700 indicates that it is the 6th Gen

Hi and thanks for reaching out. My name is Bernard a Windows fan like you. I'll be happy to help you out today.

I understand your problem, actually, Windows 11 actually need at least Intel 8th generation and above, in your case you are using Intel 6700 (that is 6th generation) we can also refer to this link for Windows 11 supported Intel processors:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardwa...

As of the moment, there is no update yet if the lower processor can upgrade in the future but better if we can post the issue to the feedback hub so that the developers will be aware as well:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/sen...

Let me know how does it go and I hope that helps.
